    3. Does anybody think that Maginsky is close to Magid [a preacher]? Maybe the surname Joseph was safer, more generic, more English, and protected the Magid, if he was still living? Do you find that sometimes the child's middle name is a parent's given name, and, when the parent dies, the child goes by his or her middle name?     3. My great grandmother is shown as Rebecca in the British Censuses of 1861, 1871 and 1881 and as Rachel or Raychel Davis in the US censuses of 1910 and earlier. My grandmother said her MIL name was Rebecca or Rachel. She moved to the US in 1888. Plus a cousin on my fathers side is sometimes Ann Elizabeth or vice versa and was known as Lizzie.
