    3. CWGC are about to do work on various war graves in the UK (including some in Golder's Green). A list of names/places, accessed from the following page: http://www.cwgc.org/news-events/news/appeal-for-relatives-(2).aspx It appears they are non CWGC headstones from the first world war eroding fast and they plan to replace them with CWGC stones and want to talk to relatives about it. Best wishes, Sherry Landa (Oxford, UK) and Jackye Sullins (Vegas, Nevada-there goes the money for my Chanukah gift ;-))

    3. I've needed to do a lot of Irish research, so I do sympathise. I would be interested in finding a website that's not a rip-off IF one exists for Irish records! I joined fmp.ie as they have a 14 day free trial at the moment, but they don't seem to have the records that I know exist & have found on other websites! The Jewish-Irish combo must be the most difficult to trace. I've been lucky, living in Liverpool I got a flight with Ryanair for just £9.98 + airport taxes. It came to less than £30 for the same-day return flight! Departure from Liverpool is about 11am, but it's only about 40 minutes flight. I had already emailed the Dublin Archives & booked what I wanted to research, which was the original alien records from WW1. Very few have survived, but Dublin's have! It was the most important 'find' in my search. The return flight is about 6pm, but that gives you a long afternoon to research. See the Dublin GRO website for tips & advice to get a day pass, or email me for further info. Not much good for those who live too far from Liverpool to take advantage of the cheap flights tho. I've found the one good thing about researching Irish Jewry is that ordering a certificate from the Dublin GRO is cheap at only €6euros. UK certs cost £9.25! So at the current exchange rate, it worth speculating. I've found my grandfather's siblings that way. It saved me months of research. I do have some wrong certs too. I might have wrong certs that are the right certs for somebody else! Is there a website where I can put these wrong Irish/Jewish certs? The other very helpful place for records is Donneybrook Hospital. That's if your ancestors were ever a patient there. Dublin's National Archives also have all 16 volumes of Stuart Rosenblatt research into Irish Jewry. You will find some mistakes, because Irish records are full of mistakes, so it's inevitable that mistakes are transferred. An Irish section on British-Jewry would be a great idea Sherry ;-) Post 1919 of course! 3. That's because FMP.ie is a separate site and takes separate subscriptions. Our UK subscription doesn't count there, the same as the US site doesn't allow UK members to see information either. 3. The exhibition , to 15th Dec., at the Brunei Gallery, SOAS, London WC1 "The British in Palestine 1917-1948 " is detailed and highly informative, has many photos, documents, artefacts, film and explanations, some from English archives;has stories of individuals, it actually starts before 1917. I think it should be seen by all who want to understand the tangled story of this land; it must be useful for senior children. see [1]http://www.soas.ac.uk/gallery/palestine/ Bryan Diamond References 1. http://www.soas.ac.uk/gallery/palestine/

    3. I to am quite interested in this exhibition also as my mother and her sister who were born and lived in London traveled to Palestine in the 1930's. I have no idea what they were doing there, just some speculation. My mother met my American born father in Palestine in 1937 and married him in Haifa in 1938. Subsequently they returned to the US because of the events in Europe during this period. It would be interesting to know if the exhibition addresses the visits of English Zionist Jews to Palestine during this period of the Mandate. Isabelle Isabelle Selikoff I.
