    3. This post triggered my thought process and thanks for that. Does anyone know of a link to such a registry for Leeds?and even better a link to the Rabbi(s) who performed marriages in Leeds in the later 19 th century? I am looking for the birth Town name for my Grandmother, Sarah Cohen, who married Harris Levi in Leeds in the 1880's. i understand the her town name would be included in these records, Thanks, Marsha Steinberg Los Angeles MsMs On Apr 28, 2013, at 2:12 AM, Cynthia McCaughan <mccaughan-ingle@paradise.net.nz> wrote: Hello Can someone please help me? 2. Sherry Landa
    3. Hi Abraham, Further to my other email-I have made a start and found Joe, Ray (whose real name was Gertie). There were other children of Solomon & Rebecca ZACKLIN. Ray was married twice as you say-in 1919 to Thomas MOSTOL or PRICE in Wandsworth and then to Herman Louis DAVIDSON in 1939 in Leeds. There was a daughter Roma Leah from the first marriage who married Cyril HULMAN (or HOLMAN). Go to www.british-jewry.org.uk and then click on Leeds Database and search for Solomon ZACKLIN and you should find the family. I am adding more detail as I find it...(as yet no link to your MARCUS family though). 3. I am trying to trace a ZACKLIN family (who later shortened their name to ZACK) who were living in Leeds during the first half of the 20th century. The ZACKLIN father was a Leeds milkman and he had 2 children. Joe ZACK(LIN) was in the tailoring trade. He died aged 82 in 1976 and is buried in Leeds. His sister Ray was quite a well-known screen and stage actress and married an actor Tommy MOSTEL. After his death, she married a businessman from Sheffield. Ray had a daughter who married a HOLM from Leeds. I would greatly appreciate hearing from anyone who might know this family or have information relating to its members and, hopefully, current descendants. Please respond to me direct to alancomm@netmedia.net.il. Many thanks, A S Goldberg Jerusalem

    2. David & Diana Laufer
    3. I have found in the Yad Vashem database Pages of Testimony written by Dora WEISSMANN in 1978 regarding several of her LAUFER relatives. I suspect that these LAUFERs are relatives of my father Szlama (Shlomo) LAUFER. Dora gave her then address in Maida Vale, London. Naturally, I started looking for Dora WEISSMANN but sadly I found her grave site in the JGSGB database. She died in July 1981 and is buried in the Edgwarebury Lane cemetery . Her tombstone has an inscription "Loving and beloved mother who lived her life with courage Mourned by her family and friends". There is no mention of the names of her children. As Dora's children are possibly my cousins I would like to establish contact. If anybody knows them please ask them to contact me. David Laufer Sydney, Australia. dlaufer@tpg.com.au

    1. [BRITISH-JEWRY] How to see documents of those entering England in the early 1880’s.
    2. marsha steinberg
    3. I am looking for family members entering England in the 1880’s from where we believe to be Latvia. Their name was Cohen. I am looking for my grandmother Sarah Cohen and her brothers Morris and Aaron. They can be found living in Leeds in the 1891 census. Morris married Esther Friedman and Sarah married Harris Levy in Leeds. The families moved to Boston, Mass around the turn of the century. I am looking for documentation of their entry into the U.K that indicates town of origin. I have been able to document their lives in the US but am unable to prove where they were from. Do any of you know how to see information of their entry to England thanks in advance for any suggestions. Without town name i think I am stuck. 3. Cynthia I think you might be onto something -if it has NZ connections- my great, great, great grandfather was a Lyon Solomon about 1780 to 18-7-1858 born in Moorfields but living all his life in London and I have his death certificate 18-7-1858 in Southwark , London. He was also in some records known as Yehuda , I think and I had thought his marriage in great Synagogue records was that of 14-8-11 but have not been able to substantiate brides name in 1841 Census records- you will find family recorded as Salaman and Solomons also.He had 7 children - 3rd son Henry went via what is now Port Elizabeth South Africa to NZ with at least 3 of his children after the death of his wife(1863) nee Frances Myers whom he married 16-8-1843. He was a furniture dealer and auctioneer. The children seem to have ended up in Christchurch Joseph 1848-1887 never married died of typhoid, there was also an Esther 1844-1927,Matilda ( Millie) 1851- to ?1915 and Elizabeth 1850-1940 . I found quite a lot about them in NZ records and NZ newspapers all on the web, Henry has a lot about him as he was found drowned in Wellington Harbour -21-10-1869 and there was an inquest all in subsequent Wellington papers Have found your 1807 marriage - I wonder if my Lyon Solomon was the son of your one or evn thye same person - would be interested to hear from you as had come to a dead end with their early history . 3. Hello, I found the end to the story earlier. (This one isn't the same Henry, Michael, ours lives in Liverpool later in life and is married to Matilda/Nina Lichtenstein) In about 1852 many of the Magnus family emigrated to Australia. In 1855 Samuel Magnus (it would seem that Samuel is Simon from Henry's marriage certificate after all) killed his wife Miriam, according to Australian records. I'd already found Henry in digs with his future brother in law, aged 14, back in London. But by that time he was calling himself Solomons. Thanks everyone for your help- several things people told me earlier eliminated possible Magnus family members! But the best hint was Linda's- the census had a son called "Jennie" who turned out to be a badly transcribed "Louis". B
