    3. Hi, An Australian cousin of mine is enquiring about the DORMAN name. I found on 1901 census - 1525 BLOOM ANNIE W F 53Z Russia Templar Street 79 1525 DORMAN JACK ST M 25 Hawker/Smallware Russia Templar Street 79 1525 BLOOM HARRIS H M 60 Tailor Russia Templar Street 79 all with the same address Would the notation ST M after Jack Dorman's name mean Stepson Male? Also does anyone have any more DORMAN information. 3. The Ralph Lazarus mentioned who married in 1796 is my gggg grandfather - from my research, he died young, before 1809, and I know of only one child, Sarah - though there could be other children I never found. Hi wife Polly/Mary remarried Solomon Joel, and we have list members descended through this marriage. Let me know if you find a link! Thanks, David Levy ---------------------------- > Harold Lewin's transcription of such records as do exist shows the marriage you mention to be between Jacob Lazarus, son of Raphael (Yaakov b. Raphael) and Sarah Lyons daighter of Yehuda Leib (Sara b. Yehuda Leib) but no addresses are shown, and there is no other information.< My transcription of this marriage (available on B-J) reads the same. If she hasn't already dones so, Eve might like to consider whether the following is a possible marriage for Jacob's father. The dates would work GSM 031/6 1796 MOSES Polly [Perle bat Meir Jacob Bramedsham (?)] LAZARUS Ralph [Raphael Moshe DeFoe (?)]

    3. One way to get a "copy of a marriage" is to go to your local LDS Family History Center and order the film containing Great Synagogue marriages. Then photograph or photocopy the relevant page of information. If you are near London, the Family History Center has the microfilm already there so you don't have to order it. Similarly, in the US, most of the large city FHCs probably have that film on the premises. If you need details on how to order a film and which one to order, please contact me. 2. Hi Janis, I think we recently had a string of mail about this so you could check the archives for the B-J list. I have the info - but it's on the hard drive of my old computer which has just gone walkabout with a computer doctor and I don't know when it will return. Try Googling the great synagogue and sending them a query - that's how I got the information. 3. Dear all, I am hoping someone with far more knowledge than me can help me with a couple of questions. I have been trying to find my Great Great Grandfather and Great Great Grandmother Philip Phillips and Annie/Hannah Moss as some of you may have noticed. I can not find their marriage certificate and I can't find their burial, their names are too common to find on census pre marriage.......if it wasn't for that I was here it's as if they didn't exist! I am not totally convinced my GG Grandfather was Jewish as he was born South Wales between 1840 and 1845 (although parents could have been travelers), all the children of Philip and Annie Phillips were married in East London Synagogue. My questions are: 1. If a father is not of the Jewish faith would the offspring be 'allowed' to marry in a synagogue if their mother is Jewish, or would father have to convert? 2. Was the East London Synagogue part of the United Synagogues and therefore, there might be Hebrew marriage certificate or marriage authorization which may give me both Philip and Annie's Hebrew names and thereby their parents. Thanks for your patience with my never ending searching for my Philip's line Debbie Bozkurt Outer Hebrides www.jacobstree.co.uk

    3. Louise - Just file away for future reference, a Rachel PRINCE born New York, married a Joseph Henry PHILLIPS (1852-Aft 1881) in 1876 (Dec qtr Westminster 1a 911). In 1881 they were living in Grosvenor Street with a three year old son Samuel. Know it is a quite a common name but the New York connection is interesting. 3. Hi Debbie, Angela and I are still working through the Brompton data and are adding them to the site (www.genpals.com) as we go. A rough estimate is that we are a quarter of the way there. There are several more Isaacs to add along with a few rather worn headstones that will need some time to be able to read (if at all), the 'What's new page' should keep you up to date on any new additions. Have you read the book http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/4771576.stm 'House by the Thames' by Gillian Tindall.
