Perhaps he retired to Simcoe ? Barnett, Ronald 135 Union St Simcoe, ON N3Y 2A9 (519) 426-3612 Eve -in Toronto Further info: Simcoe is a community of approx. 16,000 people in southwestern Ontario, near Lake Erie, and is the administrative centre (seat) of Norfolk County, Ontario. It is located at the junction of Highway 3, at Highway 24, due south of Brantford, Ontario, and accessible to Hamilton by nearby Highway 6. The town is northwest of Nanticoke in Haldimand County and is expected to be the main hub of a projected rural mass transit service connecting Simcoe to all communities within Norfolk County. 3. To add my two cents: As pointed out L"G is 33. L = 30 and G = 3. Jews do not perform weddings during the period known as the "Omer", which runs until Shavuot - 50 days. The exception is Lag B'Omer which is a quasi-festival, and as it is the first opportunity in several weeks to get married, there are many weddings on that night.

Is there anybody out in the Toronto, Ontario, Canada area who is familiar with a Ronald BARNETT (son of Bertie BARNETT and Lily SAFFER from Swansea) married to a Sheila (maiden name unknown) who was residing in the Willowdale part of Toronto in 1993? 1. Re: [BRITISH-JEWRY] Hiram as Jewish name ?
    2. I recently wrote about the Ontario birth of an illegitimate child of someone I took to be Jewish, but now I realise I might be mistaken. The father's name was Hiram LAWRANCE. I was being single-minded as I was looking for my LAZARUS family who used variations of LAWRENCE/LAURANCE as their surname. Hiram is a Hebrew name, but it doesn't appear to have been used much by Jews and I was probably confusing it with Hyam. The point was that the mother's surname was FORSTER, a FORSTER later was called to aliyah in Holy Blossom Temple in Toronto, and I made the leap that the this man was the baby. Can anyone tell me anything about the usage of the name Hiram among Jews ? Also, am I correct in believing that Jno on documents stands for John ? Eve - not looking forward to the next storm in Toronto

    3. It is the 33rd day of the Omer. Quoting from Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lag_Ba'omer : < "Lag" is not a word. In ancient Hebrew, letters were used for numerals . . and the number 33 was therefore written with the letters "lamed" (L, value 30) and "gimel" (G, value 3), making up "Lag" (33). > It is a holiday on which the normal prohibitions of the Omer (wedings, parties etc) are suspended - hence why a Golden Wedding could be celebrated on that day. 1. [BRITISH-JEWRY] JACOBS- LEVY FAMILIES
    2. phillip KIRBY
    3. My thanks to those messages listers have placed on the site regarding Jacobs/Levy and other families. My interest in the Levy line is only to support one of my distant relatives with their family research not least because she lives in the USA and cannot easily visit the UK for research. In relation to documentary evidence such as Colyer Fergusson, Hyamson and other sources the suggestion that one lister has made regarding caution is well taken. Indeed I remember that there was various correspondence on this site relating to the accuracy or otherwise of such data. I studied over forty years ago as a historian in London and am well aware of the need to review primary and other sources carefully. I researched some of the London poor houses and prisons in the 18th C as part of my research and had a particular interest in 18th C English social history.Having also lived in Western Australia and NSW I also know about the various sources of family history that exist on that continent and am fortunate in having distant cousins who can research and verify such sources. Dinah, you mentioned Eleazer Levy and the fact that it is highly probable that there are more than one person of that name. I have copy of a will summary dated 1810 for an Eleazer Levy of Cutler St Houndsditch in which he refers to his relatives including: his wife's sister Bilha and daughters Rachel and Fronica?- their father Hartog Abram of the Hague.Other relatives include Moses Leipnick of the Hague and his family;Rachel and Rosy Levy of the Hague;Benjamin Pos and his family of the Hague; Hyman Levy of Bookers Gardens Leadenhall St; Reuben Levy; and reference to maternal grandfathers Bernard Polack Pos and Alexander Polack Pos; descendants of Wolf and Esther Myers. There are also later codicils which refer to bequests to Fanny Levy wife of Hyman Levy;Hyam Cohen Dr Phillip Kirby Norwich Norfolk

So the rest looks okay. Also, I assume you have "dropped" any zeros which are used when dialing internationally, ie, 208 instead of 0208 for outer London. Hope this helps. 1. [BRITISH-JEWRY] BARNETT & MYERS
    2. Dear Dr. Kirby and fellow listers, I note the surnames BARNETT and MYERS in your family. They are also in my wife's family tree. One John MYERS appears in the 1891 London census with wife Deborah, her mother Sarah JOSEPHSON (widowed), nephew-in-law Lazarus BARNETT and an adopted daughter whose name looks like Rachel COIS!?! Now, all these people were recent immigrants (except for Rachel, who was born in Bethnal Green, London), and, if there is any connection to your family, I have the following additional links back to Russia (now Poland): everyone came from the city of Suwalki. I do not know if John's original name was Myers, but I doubt it. However, I do know that Deborah was born Doba GOLUBSKA. Her mother Sarah was born Sore KRZYWULSKA, and she married Josiel GOLUBSKI. Sarah's son's Israel (Isser) and Marcus (Shlomo Mordecai) first immigrated to Sundsvall, Sweden, where they adopted the surname JOSEPHSON. Lazarus was born Lazar Myer TYLZANSKI, and he adopted the name BARNETT in England. Unfortunately, I know nothing about the adopted daughter. In the 1901 census, Deborah MYERS is still in London, listed as married, but her husband is not listed. Instead, she has a son-in-law apparently named Flora (hard to read the name), and, staying with her also is Deborah BARNETT (my wife's grandmother). Deborah was born Doba TYLZANSKA in Suwalki. The MYERSes and BARNETTs would all be settled in Swansea, South Wales by 1910. (Deborah BARNETT married Jacob BARNETT at the Goat Street Synagogue in Swansea in 1907. Jacob was born Jankel Girsz CHAJKIELSON in Suwalki, and he and Deborah TYLZANSKA were second cousins. It gets confusing, because both the TYLZANSKI and CHAJKIELSON family lines adopted the surname BARNETT upon immigration to England.) I know very little about the MYERS family line other than the above, but it is clear that John and Deborah MYERS were married prior to coming to England and they must have come from Suwalki. Does any of this ring a bell with anybody on this list? Brian Neil Burg Fullerton, CA Researching: KABAKOFF & PORTNOI from Dokshitsy and nearby shtetlach (Minsk Gub.); CHAJKIELSON, GOLUBSKI, TYLZANSKI, & KRZYWULSKI f/Suwalki and WASZKIEWICZ f/Widugieri (Suwalki Gub.); BARNETT & MYERS from Swansea, Wales; BAILIN & RIKLIN from Klintsy & Surazh (Chernigov Gub.); BURG, KLEIN/KLEINER, ZUCKERKANDEL f/Sasov & Podkamen (Austria, now Ukr.); CHARATZ and BIK from Staraya Sinyava & Khmielnik (Podolsk Gub.); FRYDMAN, GUTMAN, JASKULKA & JASTRZAB f/Sokolow Podlaski, Wegrow, & Sterdyn (Siedlce Gub.) & FRYDMAN later from Buenos Aires, Argentina. Abraham also left bequests to his grandaughter Dinah wife of Moses BARNETT and grandaughter Maria daughter of Joseph JOSEPH; niece Jael? Coronel wife of Isaac SEBAG and nephews Moses, Jacob, and Aaron CORONEL.There was a further bequest to the Portuguese Synagogue. I hope this information maybe of relevance to some listers. 3. Hello, My name is Roberta Eichenholz and I live in the United States. I read your email on British Jewry and saw you were researching the name Jacobs. My grandmother was a Jacobs her name was Esther Jacobs, her father's name was Solomon and her mother name was Sarah. One of the most common names that is possible. I have the marriage certificate of my grandmother and grandfather, Esther Jacobs married Harris Levy on the 17th of June 1902 at the Great Garden Synagogue in White chapel, London. Her address was listed as 21 Clark St and his as 19 Clark St. Harris' father is listed as deceased and Esther's's father is listed as Morris Jacobs. The witnesses are listed as Julius Marks for Harris Levy and Morris Jacobs (her father) for Esther I have a copy of the 1901 England census and found the entire family residing at 21 Clark Mile End Old Town as written on the marriage certificate. I cannot find any Harris Levy residing at 19 Clark Street so my thought is he came after the census was taken. Just wondered if there was any connection to your Jacobs line. If I already send you and inquiry I apologize as I am trying anyone with the Jacobs name. Have a nice day. The tree is an interesting one because Colyer Fergusson also has on the same page Barent COHEN/Nathan MANDELSON and Mortimer WOOLF lines which relate to each other but with no clear links to Levy. My distant cousin on my JACOBS/LIETZEN line has Levy relatives including Nathaniel and Lewis of the Turnpike collectors fame. They also have other brothers Moses, Eleazer and Daniel.
