    2. Kim and Barbara
    3. Dear List, I will be visiting England from Australia at the end of next month and would like to visit the grave of my 5 x great grandfather who is buried at Brady Street Cemetery. Unfortunately, the phone number for the United Synagogue Burial Society on Jewishgen (+44 20 7387 7891) gives an engaged signal whenever I try to call to ascertain the precise location of the grave and arrange access. Is anyone able to point me in the right direction in order to achieve my objective? Any assistance greatly appreciated. Cheers, Babs O'Connor Penrith, NSW, Australia

And not only did they not stay forever (some did, of course) but some, as in my family, came, left, and came back. My family went from Australia to the Gold Rush, then back to England in 1851, then back to the Gold Rush in 1853, resulting in children born in SF (1851), London (1852) and SF (1854).) 3. Dear Listers, my grandfather Philip Hart, born about 1867 had a brother called Moss who went to Australia in about 1880. Their father was Michael Hart married to Celia Sarah Abendana. Their grandfather was Aaron Barnett Hart, born in 1788 in Middlesex, London. They lived most of the time around Goulston Streeet in the East End of London. I don't know if this is any help. At present I am away and have no records with me and am suing a lap top which I find very difficult. My only connection to S. Afrrica is that my father Marcus \cohen was born in Pierston andlived in Somerset East. |Best wishes, Louise----- Original Message ----- From: "LS" <mygen@sbcglobal.net> To: <british-jewry@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, March 23, 2008 5:15 AM Subject: Re: [BRITISH-JEWRY] Hart family > Keira, >

    3. Hello Listers, Can anyone advise me about this synagogue and its records? I am trying to track down the original marriage registers for the year 1892. Many London synagogues changed their names, and I was wondering if anyone could advise me on what this one is now called (if it still exists) and where I might be able to access records. Many thanks is advance, Miriam Pollak Cambridge - where today we have had rain, sun, hail and snow flurries all in one hour.

    1. [BRITISH-JEWRY] ADMIN HTML
    2. Sherry in France
    3. This is a polite but FIRM reminder that this list (as all Rootsweb lists) cannot support HTML messages. You MUST post in plain text if you want your message to appear on the list. I am increasingly caught up in having to deal with trapped posts. Normally, I reject the message and explain why, but I am finding that I am repeatedly telling the same people the same thing. I really don't have the time for this. I know if you normally email in rich text/HTML it's not always easy to remember to switch it off for list emails, but I am not a nanny (heaven forbid- the poor children if I was!) So, as of now, HTML messages trapped in Admin will simply be deleted without comment. I am sure you all appreciate that I am not trying to be unhelpful and that, as ever, if you are struggling with some aspect of posting, you can email me privately and I will try my best to help you. Thanks for your understanding. Sherry (AKA Big Bad Duty Admin)

    3. I just found some relatives through JewishGen, and myheritage.com using its smartmatching service. The problem is that I think the myheritage mechanism to contact people is not working. The tree was posted by a Colin Gold. Our common ancestors were Sam Gold(b. 1836 in Poland) and Rachel from London. They are my gg grandparents. Then it looks like the tree, through the male line, goes like this: Sam Gold Marks Gold (b. 1863, Poland, and came to London)(I'm descended through Leah, his sister) Morris Gold (b. 1889, stayed in London) Gerald Gold (b. 1925 London, went to Australia, died 1999) Geoff Gold Colin Gold? I know this is a UK list, but someone might be able to suggest an Australian link, or even be related! Thanks, David L. Levy
