    2. Angie Elfassi
    3. I was given permission to forward this email - what is of interest to BJers is the research aid on the link. "The Israel Genealogical Society has just posted an index of the publication Lakarov V'larahok, which appeared between 1945 and 1947. The publication contains hundreds of lists of Holocaust survivors. The index, which covers the 73 issues of the publication, is not an index of names but is a listing of articles and places where Holocaust survivors were located. To get a better understanding of what it contains, see the Avotaynu article as it provides a detailed description with examples. At some future date, Lakarov V'larahok will be scanned making the index a useful tool in navigating the publication. To view the index and a reprint of the article on Lakarov V'larahok that appeared in Avotaynu vol. XIV, No. 2 Summer 1998 go to the IGS website http://www.isragen.org.il/NROS/Research/Aides.html On 30 April the IGS-Negev Branch will devote its meeting to a lecture and discussion of Lakarov V'larahok. You are all cordially invited to attend." 3. Try the National Archives site, or any of the London library/archives such as LMA because they should all have lists of reputable people. If you get really stuck the Beth Din might advise. Good luck (and hope you have shallow pockets and long arms ;-)) Sherry Can anyone on the List tell me where I might find a professional Genealogist in London who specialises in Jewish records dating back to the 1700s.

    1. [BRITISH-JEWRY] ADELINA DE LARA AND CRAWCOUR LINKS
    2. phillip KIRBY
    3. Dear Listers Lottie Adelina Preston b1872 daughter of Anne De Lara ( parents Sarah Abigail Cohen Crawcour and David Laurent de Lara) and George Matthew Tilbury ( known as Preston) became very well known as a concert pianist under the name of Adelina de Lara. My Crawcour line was also linked to Simha Cohen de Lara c 1804- 79( father Abraham Cohen de Lara) and her marriage to David Laurent de Lara c1806-76. Adelina de Lara in her autobiography 'Finale' talks about David Laurent de Lara who 'married my maternal grandmother , a Polish Jewess of the name of Cracour, that of an important Polish military family who lived in Kracow, in the part of Poland then under Austrian rule.' This statement about such a Jewish military family appears at first face to be unlikely because Samuel Crawcour ( from Kracow) the progenitor of the line ( my 5x great grandfather) was an interant Jewish apothecary/dentist who arrived in England circa 1760s as a young man in his 20s ( b 1748-1816). However, we know from research that the Jews in Poland did form military units at least from the 1500s if not much earlier including having officers serving with Bonaparte such as Colonel Jozef Aronwicz and Berek and Josef Joselewicz. Can any listers shed further light on the extent to which Jews in Poland or the Austrian Empire held important military commissions. Dr Phillip Kirby Norfolk England

    3. I suppose it would have been nice if I had included the 1881 census data I mentioned: 1881: Name: Sarah Lazarus Age: 12 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1869 Relation: Daughter Father's Name: Isaac Mother's Name: Easter Gender: Female Where born: Whitechapel Civil Parish: Spitalfields County/Island: London Country: England Street address: Wentworth St 11 Wentworth Court Education: Employment status: Registration district: Whitechapel Sub-registration district: Spitalfields ED, institution, or vessel: 13 Neighbors: View others on page Household Members: Name Age Easter Lazarus 29 Isaac Lazarus 37 Sarah Lazarus 12 Hannah Levy 22 Any takers???? Thanks, Luana Hi list, I have now found what I think to be Sarah LAZARUS in the 1881 census as well. Her mother is listed as Easter, rather than Esther....and her mother is married here, so this is a possible father for Sarah now...as Isaac LAZARUS. And to boot, there is still a LEVY connection. Although Hannah LEVY is listed as a servant, I still think this is significant. I have found other census' where someone is listed as a servant in the H/H, but actually turned out to be family related. Any possible connection, please reply. 3. This is sometimes found on earlier certificates when a death was sudden and unexpected. It usually means that the cause was not immediately obvious, but no foul play was suspected. A stroke is one possibility. Elly On 03/04/2008, Debbie Bozkurt <debbieinscotland@googlemail.com> wrote: > just opened up a death certificate, man aged > 83, cause of death, Visitation of God! Had plenty of natural Decay and one that listed every known illness to man but this is a first. Has anyone else come upon any other strange cause of Death. 3. I believe Zvi is deer and not connected to Zeev which is wolf. Zvi is Hebrew and parallels the Yiddish name Hirsh. So he has two unrelated names Aaron (brother of Moses) and Zvi and he is descended from male ancestors of the Levi tribe. There are three tribes ongoing today COHAIN, LEVI and everything else is YISRAEL (ISRAEL). I never before thought that a butcher could recognise his own cuts. I have a Raphael LAZARUS father of John LAZARUS born ±c1803 and Moses LAZARUS (I think). Could this Raphael by any chance be connected to yours? (I'm grabbing at straws I know!). Most of my LAZARUS men are noted as butchers, would an occupation run in the family? Samuel married Elizabeth Nathan in 1798, but I have not tracked down their > descendents. Your Elizabeth NATHAN, I have Miriam NATHAN born c1840 London married to Judah LAZARUS 13/7/1864. I've (hopefully) found her father David NATHAN. I calculated he was born ± 1819. By any chance a connection to your Elizabeth NATHAN? I'm trying to track some siblings for Miriam! Thank you for this information, really appreciated. Janis
