    3. Hi Sheri The marriage certificate will contain the names of the bride and groom, their addresses at the time of their marriage, their ages (though if over 21 will probably say 'of full age') and their occupations. It will also give you the names of their respective fathers and their occupations. As well as, of course, the place and date of the marriage. Copies of the original certificates can be bought on-line for £7, but maybe that is only for UK residents. If you would like me to purchase the certificate for you, please contact me off-line. Best wishes Rosemary > > How would I go about getting the actual document? 3. Hi Sheri (or anyone connected), Friedman....would you know anything about Harriett Friedman b. abt. 1833 Poland (father Solomon Friedman). She married Hyam/Hyman Jacobs on Jul 8, 1857 in London. Hyam/Hyman Jacobs was b. abt. 1834 Poland. I know Hyam/Hyman Jacobs & Harriett Friedman Jacobs had two known children, Sarah Jacobs b. Jan 1858 & Rebecca Jacobs b. abt. 1860. I know nothing further about Rebecca, but Sarah m. Morris Samuel (parents Isaac Samuel & Louisa Friedeberg), Isaac being a Jewish Minister. I have a lot of info on the Jacobs clan, from England through their time and deaths in NY, USA. If Sheri or anyone can possibly connect, please contact me. 3. Hi It has now come to light that a Mr. Michaelson and wife, from Leeds, who came to Israel in the 60's, maybe related to my family. It's possible that the wife's single name was Stone.  Apparently their son was a doctor who quit the profession. Very scanty information but it might mean something to someone. 3. Hi all, I've been trying for a long time on and off to find the grave of Judah George SOMERS. He died 2 Aug 1879, at 23 Grosvenor Road, Highbury, London. I've been searching the online JC archive, and have found the announcement of death (2 Aug 1879 edition) and thanks for condolences (following edition). How long after the death should I look for the stone setting announcement, if there is one? I haven't been able to find him on a direct search of Somers or Somer at that time but the scans around then do seem to be particularly poor quality. He was to have been a member of New Synagogue but I've drawn a blank searching the United Synagogue graves database. Thanks, Julie

    3. The page of the marriage register is dated 1 May 1707, when the Act of Union came into effect and England and Scotland were united to form Great Britain. This was regarded as an emblematic marriage between the two countries. "Let marriage be held in honour among all (Hebrews xiii.4) Two shall become one flesh (Matthew xix.5) It is not good that the man should be alone (Genesis ii.18) Be fruitful and multiply (Genesis i.28) On 1 May 1707 the union of England and Scotland (the emblematic marriage) begins. May G-d make them prosper." Just my attempt. Others may do better.
