    3. Dear Genners, For those of us who don't subscribe, one can play around with the keyword search, that is, try using different words that ought to be in the notice. This may bring up more or different parts of the notice so that you can read it better. Good luck, -- Jeremy G Frankel ex Edgware, London, England Berkeley, California, USA EBIN: Russia, New York, USA FRANKEL: Poland, London, England GOLDRATH/GOLD: Praszka, Poland, London, England KOENIGSBERG: Vilkaviskis, Lithuania, London, England, NYC, NY, USA LEVY (later LEADER): Kalisz, Poland, London, England PRINCZ/PRINCE: Krakow, Poland, London, England, NYC, NY, USA

    1. [BRITISH-JEWRY] The JC (was JC Lookup Please)
    2. Sherry Landa and Russell Johnson
    3. That's what happens on the JC Archive site when you are not subscribed. You have to "guess" from what you can see on the index search. Normally you get a couple of lines from the paper with a few bits missing or funny symbols because the OCR indexing process is not perfect but you can usually take a reasonable guess at what the item says/should say for example if it read fissnanger you would guess fishmonger from what you already know. Sherry Landa (23170, Viersat, FRANCE) I'm supposed to have Adobe 8, but when I go to the JC site and bring up a search for Zalig and go to the achive and ask for page one the single page comes up with strips missing.

    2. Brenda Habshush
    3. Dear Raymond, After having read your request for help with GALINSKY, I suggest that you refer to the List of marriages and burials at the following site: http://www.jewishgen.org/JCR-uk/Leeds.htm Here you write the surnames and receive names and then compare original dates, addresses, Brides, grooms, fathers' names and their occupations. There is a lot of imformation about Galinsky. If you need some extra help please contact me privately As my Leeds cousin is married to one of the decendants. Brenda Habshush, Israel. . . 1. Re: [BRITISH-JEWRY] Harris Galinsky - Leeds, Yorkshire, UK - 1900 to 1920
    2. Sherry Landa and Russell Johnson
    3. Hello Raymond, Welcome. Do you have an occupation for Harris GALINSKY? I have one in my database who might fit, but in 1891 he was married to Fanny. I also have a Sarah WOLFSON who might fit, but have no marriage for her. The problem is that both WOLFSON & GALINSKY can be spelled in a variety of ways. Do you know if Leah was the oldest child (I ask to try to narrow down the marriage date)? Of course, the obvious answer might be that they were not married in UK! Sherry (23170, Viersat, France) I am new to this list. I am looking for information on a Harris GALINSKY, a tailor's cutter, from Leeds, West Yorkshire, UK, for a friend, who is the daughter of Israel Galinsky below.

    2. Ray Hart
    3. Listers, Would any one be able to do a lookup in the Jewish Chronical for anything on Zalig Hart [fishmonger]please? He very likely would be my g/g/grandfather. He had a connection to the Great Synagogue of London. My g/grandfather Benjamin [b1851] was married in the GSL in 1875 before bringing his family to Australia. Not having a subscription to JC it seems I can't read the pages I would like to. Regards to all, Ray

    3. Dear Ray, Victoria, is fine. We don't expect your full street address, in fact, it's actively discouraged for safety reasons! It just helps to know who can go where for what. Now we know you can't go anywhere we'll give the same advice as we do for anyone without facilities on their doorstep (i.e those in Middle East are not sent to their nearest LDS library as they don't have one!) We all find the price of certificates shocking. Sadly, in UK some things you only get from a certificate and some things you don't get from them so it's a question of buying wisely. There are lots of people here who will do free census look ups etc for you-if you ask. What you need to do, is just tell people what you know (i.e. I know she died/was divorced between 1871 and the date of the remarriage, because I have her in the 1871 census OR I would like to find her in the censuses before 1878 so I can narrow down her death/divorce etc). Best wishes, Sherry (23170, Viersat, FRANCE) You ask where I am, for now lets just say I'm in Victoria <snip>

    1. Re: [BRITISH-JEWRY] Myers / Liverpool / 1800s
    2. Sherry Landa and Russell Johnson
    3. Hi, There should be something on there-usually it gives the address at the time of application and any other addresses for a given period. How long seems to depend. I think the minimum is about 4 years. You should be able to add a proviso when you ask for a quotation (i.e. only if the occupation is X or he was born about Y or the address was Z etc). It's a long time since I asked for a quotation from them, so I am not completely sure. This might appear in their FAQs? Let us know how you get on. Sherry Thanks for the help! I'm in New York, USA. If I order the naturalization papers will there be something on it that would indicate to me that this Henry Myers is the same as my Henry Myers (ie. father's name or current address)?

    3. Dear Raymond and Sherry, I have a Sarah GALINSKY who married a George (born Gustave) GOLDFIELD in London in 1911. Her father's name was Marks GALINSKY. I also know that some of the BMD indices incorrectly list their children's last name as GOLISKY. Any connections?
