    3. I was told that there were Lewis brothers who left Tsarist Russia and went to England to live. Jacob I found on the census 1901 but I do not know who the brothers were. Lewis was not the orginal name, they changed it up arrival. Looking for orginal name, passengers lists, naturalization papers etc??? I would like to trace them in Russia.

    3. I know there are several of you researching FREEDMAN. Perhaps this might shake a twig in someone’s tree. I have learned of a Hudes FRYDMAN who immigrated from Stopnice, Poland to England sometime before WWII.  She married & had a child and perhaps lived in Manchester, or it could be Leeds.  She would likely have been born in early 1880s. I do not know her married surname.  Her mother was Chana Kamieniarz nee Frydman.  Her father was Shmuel.  She may have perished in a London bombing but without her surname I cannot search. 3. Further to my previous: Albert BARNETT youngest s/o late Mr & Mrs Barnet BARNETT announced his engagement to Florence Eveline STRIEM on 4 Feb 1903 in The JC and then in the next edition the marriage was announced on the same day! It also gives the bride both STRIEM and LEVY as surnames-usually this would indicate a marriage (i.e. she was LEVY, married STRIEM and then remarried BARNETT). I looked back and Florence E LEVY married Berthold STRIEM at Hope Place Synagogue, Liverpool, in 1891. Berthold's death is registered in the last qtr of 1897 Romford. He was 37. 3. Born Q1 1908, Ormskirk (Ormskirk 8b 912). You can see the entry on FreeBMD. Ormskirk is the Registration District and covers quite a large area of Lancashire - see here: http://www.ukbmd.org.uk/genuki/reg/districts/ormskirk.html You can order the Birth Certificate from: http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/#0 This is the _official_ web site of the GRO - now part of the Identity and Passport Service. It is the only place (other than the local Registry Office) which you should use and this is the cheapest way of purchasing the Certificate. You won't be able to see the information on the certificate unless you actually purchase it. 1. [BRITISH-JEWRY] Becky FRYDMAN
    2. Ann Linder
    3. A newly discovered family member who immigrated to England: Becky Frydman born in Stopnice, Poland 1870s or earlier. I do not know exactly when she immigrated to England but it was probably anytime well before 1928. She married Danny (surname unknown) in London. He was a tailor in Poland then he became a furrier in London. They had 3 children. Becky's sisters lived in Stamford Hill so it is likely that she also lived there or nearby. I found a marriage for a Sarah Frydman/Freedman marrying Mendel Marks Ackerman, seemingly unrelated except for the Frydman surname. No children found. My research to date has found that the Frydmans freely interchanged given Yiddish names with chosen anglicized names, making my searches quite frustating. And one sister occasionally spelt her surname as Freedman. A well known pay site has several marriages for a Becky. Does anyone have any thoughts on this stumper? -- Kindest Regards, Ann Florida USA

    3. Is anyone working with Zelig Wolfe? Possible info.: Zelig b. about 1864, a watchmaker or jeweler, son of Jacob, a jeweler. A Zelig Wolfe was registrar at a synagogue in Leeds. When Jacob died, wife Betsey [AKA "Easter"] Domben married [Jacob's brother?] Samuel Wolfe, a glass and lead dealer. Samuel's wife, Rebecca, had died. Zelig's siblings were Sophia and Emanuel; Louis, Leah, Amelia, and Morris were Samuel's children. Zelig married Theodora and had son, Jacob in 1889; Zelig/Zalig Wolfe d. 1899 at age 34. [There was also an older man named Zalech Wolfe, whose daughter, Sarah, married Benjamin Finberg in 1883 in Leeds.] I'd like to know what their original surname was, what town in "Poland" Jacob and Samuel came from, and the names of their siblings. Looking for siblings of Hirsch Wolfe of Raseiniai, a glazier. Thank you! Linda Wolfe Kelley California [Wolfe, Harris, Raisman, Resnick, Allswang, Bereskin, Tolchakoff]

In theory, you could use the Birmingham cemeteries search, via http://www.birmingham.gov.uk, to www.leisure.birmingham.gov.uk/bacas, but there's a notice: "Due to technical difficulties, this link is temporarily unavailable. A solution is currently being investigated but in the mean time you may contact the relevant cemetery office for any genealogy enquiries. Thank you for your patience." 3. This is just a reminder regarding the handling of sensitive data. The remit of the list is to research our ancestry. The main focus will therefore be the deceased. However, in researching our past lines we often stumble (by design or chance) upon the living. Please remember that, whilst certain things may be in the public domain, the living have a right to their privacy. Our archives are public and as such accessible to all. In addition, some of the people we find may not want to be contacted and some may be vulnerable. It is important that we bear these things in mind when posting. You are therefore reminded that you are not to post any details of anyone living, on this list, without their express permission. Many list members appreciate offers of others who may be more local or have specialist knowledge, in helping to contact living relatives. However, others do not want to make contact (Sherry has one such first cousin once removed). It is up to posters to indicate if they wish others to help them with this aspect, and then take it off-list to deal with the specifics. It works on an opt-in basis and members are urged to think carefully beforehand about how, where, when living relatives will be contacted and strategies to deal with possible rejection which may come as a result of unsolicited contact with living relatives. If you have uncertainties, then the list etiquette is to email Admin to discuss the issues before posting to the list. Finally, whilst we are talking about etiquette, please remember that you cannot post messages to the list from other people without their express permission and only if you give them full credit. If you want to post a message from someone else, please get their permission and send this to Admin. Please make sure that the message is of interest to a wider audience and that it is within the remit of the list. Thanks for your understanding and cooperation, Sherry & Jackye

    1. [BRITISH-JEWRY] PHILLIPS - ISAACS
    2. Dan Henderson
    3. I posted this request before, in July of this year, and received some good ideas from many of you. Thanks. You reported a number of people having similar or the same surnames, etc. However, I hope that someone out there may be able to zero in on a solution for me. I am seeking two important items of information: 1. The birth dates and places of David Aaron PHILLIPS and Catherine ("Kate") ISAACS, and 2. The names (& any other info) of their parents. David & Catherine were married at the Great Synagogue, London, 22 Jun, 1831, about two years before their first child, Sophia was born in Jamaica. So, apparently the two emigrated to Jamaica 1831 - 1833. Both died in Jamaica; David April, 1856, and Catherine, March, 1875. David and Kate's marriage records show that his father's Hebrew name was Aryeh Shirga PAIS, and her Hebrew name was Keila and her father's was Issachar BEHR. You have sent me some people who, when married, recorded their parents as Aryeh PHILLIPS, Aryeh PAIS, and for the brides, Issachar BEHR. How many people would have these names? Where to look to find their parents? Any tips, clues, help, about the family would be appreciated VERY MUCH. Dan H. New Orleans, La. USA
