    3. Found an Isaac LEVIN of 36 and 38 Busfield St, Leeds. Naturalised November, 1895, from Russia as per The London Gazette. According to the BJ Leeds info there is an Isaac, his Hebrew name is Yitzhak H'Levi and he was a grocer at 36-46 Busfield St in the 1901 census. I wonder if this is connected to the LEWIS family. <39 Busfield St to Brunswick and then back to Busfield but to no 37 Naomi Ogin> <in 1901, Jacob and Fanny lived at #37 "Bousfield St." Linda Wolfe Kelley, California> Naomi Ogin Brisbane

    3. Hello Judi Found a few births, marriages and deaths which seem connected to the LEWIS’s. I'm sure that the naturalisation mentioned previously is the correct one based on info in the London Gazette for his business dealings. Nathan LEWIS married Sarah L CRAMER/CRUMER/CRAMMER depending on the source, Beth Hamedrash Hagodel Synagogue, Newton Road, Leeds, Sept quarter,1939. Isaac LEWIS married Dorothy GALFSKY at the Jews Synagogue (Great), Belgrave Street, Leeds, 1928. Children found so far are Hazel J LEWIS reg Dec quarter, 1932 and John M LEWIS reg March quarter, 1936, both Leeds North and both with the mother’s surname showing as  GALFSKIY. Etty LEWIS married Louis SAMUELS, Sept quarter,1923, Leeds, daughter Rachel LEWIS born Mar quarter,1929,Leeds. Mary nee LEWIS and Louis HULMAN had two children born Leeds, Stanley Z HULMAN, June quarter, 1922,and Renee G HULMAN,Dec quarter,1925. Renee married Bernard GOLDBERG, June quarter,1948,Leeds. She passed away in May, 2000 as per the Jewish Chronicle Archives. Louis passed away 5th December,1942. Based on the ages showing on census info, Fanny (Jane) passed away Sept quarter, 1935, Leeds North and Jacob passed away Dec quarter, also Leeds North. <Searching Jacob Lewis b. 1864 wife Fanny Smith b. 1864 Judi Conway, USA> Naomi Ogin Brisbane

Only trouble is, there doesn't seem to be a Bousfield St. There was Busfield Street in Leeds and now, in nearby Bradford. 3. Dear All In Mile End 1901, Eva KURR married David DAVIDOVITZ. They had three children - Jacob - 23rd October 1902 Mollie/Mildred/Millie - 6th January 1908 Aleck - 27th August 1909 Eva was boarding with a TOPPLESTEIN family in 1901, 24 Brunswick Street, St Geo East. Samuel (42), Annie (38) and their children Isaac (19) Fanny (12) and Reuben (1). Isaac became Louis DANIELS and Reuben also took the DANIELS surname. Eva may have been Annie's sister. I think TOPPLESTEIN might have poss been TAFFELSTEIN originally. Eva and David's son, Jacob, became Jack DAVIDSON. These families went to the US and I have quite a bit of info going forward except for Millie DAVIDSON. Is anybody researching these surnames in the UK. I have info on David's parents and siblings. Thanks Naomi Ogin Brisbane PS - Apologies for sending a post twice with another name mentioned on one of them

    3. John - I just posted this to BJ... -----Original Message----- To: '[email protected]' Subject: Lewis & Galfsky Judi - Have you come across a KEINER family? They were living at 35 and 37 Van Dyke St in Leeds in 1881. Same address as when Jacob married Fanny/Jane in 1885. If you apply for the Hebrew Marriage Authorisation, that, in theory, should name Jacob's unmarried brothers and if you're fortunate, the place of origin for the bridge and groom. At worst, it provides full Hebrew names which helps go back in time. It should also show if Fanny's father was alive when they married. How was the family showing in 1901. You mentioned Isaac. Were there other siblings as well. Was Jacob still a slipper maker and what was the address. Have you tracked them in 1911. From what you've gathered, did they remain in Leeds. The London Gazette records naturalisations that took place as well as change of names, business info etc etc http://www.gazettes-online.co.uk/home.aspx?geotype=London Not all naturalisations show in the UK Archives as being available on line and many people didn't naturalise. http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/catalogue/search.asp http://www.1911census.co.uk/ Again, if you're fortunate, that census info can tell place of origin, assuming that Jacob was still alive in April, 1911. <were Lewis brothers who left Tsarist Russia Judi Conway>

    3. I think I have them in 1891 census (badley damaged) in Busfield St...problem I have is that all references to Jane, so far, appear as Fanny! 1885 provincial marriage authorisations are one-liners Syn, date, bride (X bat Y) groom (A ben B) and minister. So, it's quite expensive when you already know the father's names as Zalig LEWIS and Riva SMITH. >From 1891 mother was Becca SMITH and there was a sister Annie SMITH. Have to go out, will write properly later today!
