    3. I don't know whether this message will reach the list, so I've sent it direct by CC,... And I don't know whether I am giving you info you already have... Tottenham is a (northern) part of Greater London - it should show up on any of the mapping sites, if you specify UK. In the UK it is known for its Premier League football team. Kovno is designated as Russia in many records, but the boundaries moved to and fro in history. It is a principal place in Lithuania, now known as "Kaunas". It would be worth you having a look at the LitvakSIG areas of JewishGen, if you haven't already done so. 2. Ian Samuel
    3. Dear cousins My Great Great Great Great Grandfather is or was Joseph Joseph. All that I know about him so far is that he produced or assisted in the production of a daughter named Rachael who married Eleokim Gets or Alexander or Godfrey Samuel on 15th September 1816 at the Great Synagogue in London. I wonder whether he is the same Joseph Joseph that my cousin Danielle, who is related on my paternal grandmother's side of the family, is researching. Is there anyone out there who might be able to assist? I have got back as far as Joseph Joseph on one side and Eleokim or Godfrey's father Moshe Jacob Samuel on the other part of this marriage. To go back that little bit further would be delightful. Indeed to work out where they all came from originally would be the icing on the cake. Best wishes from Melbourne a couple of hours after the running of the 2010 Melbourne Cup. 3. Just a quick word of thanks to the several folks (Judy Lester first among them) who replied with detailed and comprehensive answers to my inquiry about Sun Fire records. What a pleasure dealing with such knowledgeable and helpful people. And a brief comment on the world we live in: I sent my email at around 9PM (EST), got the first reply (from Judy in the UK) within an hour, then a second reply about an hour later from a list member in Australia whose ancestors lived almost next door to mine on Field Lane in 1816. Answers from opposite sides of the planet in a couple of hours... egad. Randy ------------------------- Randall Davis

    3. Dear Genners, Now is the time for me to hire a researcher based in Newcastle. If you have any suggestions, please send them to my email, not to the List. I need someone prepared to a) to to the Tyne & Wear Archives b) to visit Elsewick & Hazelrigg Cemeteries c) to search electoral rolls & synague records I am able to do online researchmyself ; it's the _local_ stuff I need help with. 1) I am looking for _Death_ info on Hedwich (Ada) Lewis b. 17 May 1888 at 22 High Villa Place, Westgate. She may have died about 1955. 2)on her mother, Jane (Janet Jenny) SANDMAN, who married first Mark LEWIS (Aug 21, 188) & then Aaron FREEDMAN Au 26, 1903). She was born in about 1856 Nakel, Prussia & died about 1920 in Newcastle. She is rumoured to have been buried in Elswick Cemetery (Row B). Jenny (aka Jannatt) had 4 children: I know of two, Henry & Zellmar. 3)But Adolph (aka Sunny) has disappeared - also Hedwich, who may have married. I'd be grateful for your input. Do you have any addresses. They can provide a clue sometimes. Was she born in the East End. There is also a possibility that she was placed in an Institution. <I am pretty convinced she died since 1911 census says says 8 kids born and only 3 living Bob Moss Chicago IL> Naomi Ogin Brisbane

    3. Randall, This item is held at the London Metropolitan Archives (LMA), not at the National Archives, nor at Guildhall Library (as stated on the webpage). Confusion arises because (a) this online catalogue is hosted by the National Archives but relates to nationwide archive collections, and (b) the Sun Insurance registers have recently been moved from Guildhall Library to the LMA. The item will consist of a single entry (normally 4-6 lines) in the register of the Sun Fire Insurance Company for 1815 (MS 11936, vol. 467, policy no. 906078). Note that it is not the policy itself, but simply a register entry. Such entries normally give the name, status, address and occupation of the policy-holder, the nature, type of construction and the value of the buildings and personal property being insured, the premium paid, and the renewal date. There is normally no other information of genealogical interest. A copy of the register entry can be obtained direct from the LMA. The archives are closed to personal callers until 15 November (stocktaking), but email enquiries are being handled as normal. http://tinyurl.com/5dtxzu Judy London, UK On Sun, Oct 31, 2010 at 1:59 AM, Randall Davis <[email protected]> wrote: > Can anyone guide me about ways to access information at The National Archives, in particular > records of the Sun Fire Office, at this web page > > http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/A2A/records.aspx?cat=076-sun_2-0-467&cid=-1&Gsm=2008-06-18#-1 > > One of the items listed: > > [no title]  MS 11936/467/906078  3 April 1815 > Contents: > Insured: David Davis, 1 and 2 Field Lane Holborn, clothes salesman
