Hi all, I'm hoping someone will be able to help me make head or tail of a transcript from a family Bible, and possibly find other relatives. I'm trying to make the connection between my great grandfather, a Henry Joseph Edward (Stafford-) BAKER, and the transcript. Henry was born in 1871 in England, possibly Somerset. I've been lead to believe that he was born STAFFORD BAKER which was changed to BAKER when he came to South Africa. He married Agnes Jane ELSEY born in Hampshire on 29 Dec 1871. They had five children born in England: Harold Joseph Edward, John Hector, Elsey (Elsie?) Agnes Jane, and Ernest and Frank who both died as infants in England. Their last child, Edward James, was the first to be born in South Africa in 1913, and is the only one still living. I think the family arrived in SA in 1912. Henry had two brothers, Sidney and Edward. Sidney also came to South Africa and stayed, whereas Edward came over, apparently without his wife, but returned to her a while later. I'm particularly interested in finding out about these two brothers, and their parents. The transcript in the Bible lists the following people although some of the connections are vague: Mr James BELSOM (died 27 May 1859, aged 77) James Timothy BELSOM (son of James, died 29 Nov 1851, aged 5) Their address was 11 William Street, High Lambert. Then there is a list of Mr & Mrs BAKER's children: Mary Ann Baker (born 4 Dec 1838, at Mr & Mrs Greens Pottery) Martha Sarah Baker (born 15 Nov 1840, at Mr & Mrs Greens Pottery) Joseph James Baker (born 15 Nob 1842, at Mr & Mrs Greens Pottery) Susan Sophia Baker (born 17 or 19 Feb 1845 at Catherine Street, Bauxhall No 21) Henry Frederick Baker (born 25 April 1848 at at Mr & Mrs Greens Pottery) * Any information regarding Catherine Street and the Greens Pottery would be gratefully appreciated - my imagination is running wild regarding the Pottery! The Bible notes then go on to list a few odd references: Joseph BAKER married to mary Ann BELSOM at St Mary's Church on 11 December 1831. Henry BELSOM died 14th July 1840 in the 33 years of his life. James BAKER Snr died 19th September 1841. Susan BAKER Sen and wife of the above died 27th September 1847. Mrs Ann BELSOM died December 21st aged 79 years. I will be trying to get clarity on the Bible notes from Edward within the next few weeks, but since he never lived in England, I'm not sure he will be able to help. I've only been researching my family trees a short while so please consider me a babe in the woods but any connections or information will be gratefully appreciated.
