Hello Listers, Great-grandmother Ellen Davis was born in 1837 to John DAVIS and wife unknown. Ellen's siblings (if any) are unknown. They went to the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA, area about 1851. John was an iron worker. Ellen married Obadiah Holmes STODDARD. Ellen's census records show she and her parents were born in England. Looking for their "home town" in England and family/ancestors there. The British birth index for 4th quarter 1837 and 1st quarter 1838 lists Ellen Davis' born in the following Districts-Counties: Stourbridge-Worcestershire; Portsea-Hampshire; Frome-Somersetshire; St. George Southwark-London- South; and Dorking-Surrey. I checked the 1841 Stourbridge census - no luck with a John and Ellen DAVIS. Does anyone out there have a John and Ellen DAVIS in their records? Gratefully, Kay Haworth (in Southern California)
