I am researching the Longbottom name. My earliest known ancestor is William Longbottom. His father may have been an Edmund Longbottom, master of the ship Leviathan which most likely sailed out of Bristol in the year 1708 to Virginia and Maryland. It had a sister ship the Alathea that sailed with her. I have record that another William Longbottom, probably the son of William Longbottom, is shown to be a captain of a ship in Virginia in 1762. The two seaman combined leads me to believe that my Longbottom ancestors were sailors. Another Longbottom that I haven't been able to place is Henry, who was mustered for service for two months in 1729 who stayed in Virginia. I understand that Yorkshire was the primary location for the Longbottom families. Does anyone have any records of Longbottom seamen.
