I am new to the list and am hoping find surname connections to my maternal line of WOODTHORPE relatives. My great-grandfather was apparently living at 6 Grassendale Park, Gartston prior to 1881, and his family WAS living there for the 1881 census. The surname for the family is Woodthorpe. My grandfather is Thomas and his parents were William and Mary. His siblings were: John, William James, Louisa, Mary J., Elizabeth, and possibly Sarah J. There is another daughter Anna Maria who must not have been at home for the 1881 census. The older children were born in Liverpool and the last one, Elizabeth, was born in Garston. His sister Louisa Shaddelow Woodthorpe was christened 17 march 1824 on batch number C131691 William's father, also named William was married to Sarah Shaddelow 13th June 1814 at Thurlton, Norfolk on Batch number 7114417. There is another: Annie Maria Woodthorpe /23/ spinster / dau of John Woodthorpe, labourer, 50 James St. was married to John Hughes/23/bach/ crane driver/ son of Joseph Hughes/42/blksmith/42 James St on 24 Feb 1912. I suspect that one or more of this group may have been ancestor(s) of Colin Woodthorpe, soccer athlete, born Ellesmere Port. My great-grandfather Thomas moved to Buffalo, NY by 1890 and was listed as a ship carpenter at that time. I have been unable to track him. Many segments of this branch have been very elusive. I am hoping to find out who Thomas worked for in Garston area so that I can track him. I am also hopeful to find any living relatives to this bunch as they may be able to give me some information. Sorry for the long message, but I have already tried to post to the list three times. Please excuse my lack of brevity. Hopefully, SKS will be able to fill in some gaps!
