Hallo I am hoping that someone will recognise the name HERDSFIELD and help me a little with the research. I believe they came from the Derbyshire area, as I have a record of Joseph HERDSFIELD, marrying Mary BUXTON in Derby in 1740. Joseph died in 1769 and Mary in 1788, and they are buried in Bakewell Churchyard. There is also mention on the gravestone of a son, Joseph, who died in 1785 in Wincanton. There was a daughter, Ann, who married John WILLSON, and they are buried near Joseph and Mary. There was also a daughter, Pinninah, christened in 1752. The family may have moved to London, because I then have a family of Herdsfields in the Aldersgate area, George marrying Mary STEVENS in 1783, and Mary HERDSFIELD marrying William PIERCE in 1782. I also have a Penninah HERDSFIELD marrying a William ATHILL in London in 1802. I have information about a Joseph HERDSFIELD who was a clerk to quite a wealthy man, and who gave evidence in a Civil case involving money, and who I assume was the son who died in 1785. The family seem to have been well educated, as they could all write very well, including the daughters, and George Herdsfield was a bookseller and stationer in the Aldersgate area. His uncle, Silvanus Chirm, was also a bookseller and stationer, and when Silvanus retired George took over his business. George and Mary had a number of children, amongst them Thomas, who became a City Police Officer very early on. He was made a Freeman of the City of London in 1827 by Redemption, and he is quoted as being a 'Police Officer' then. Thomas married someone called Sarah, but I do not know her surname, and I cannot find their marriage, though I believe it might have been in the Islington area. I cannot find the christening of their children, Thomas, Ann Eliza Oldrinnie and Mary Ann, though I believe this may also have been in Islington. Ann is my great grandmother, and I would dearly love to find her birth, which I believe was in about 1830. I would also like to find the marriage of Thomas and Sarah. If anyone can help me I would be very grateful. I have been looking for these missing links for some years, and still feel that one day I will find them. If there is someone who recognises any of the names, and who is researching the same ones I would love to hear from them.
