Could someone tell me where the surnames HAMPTON and ROSS were predominently found in the 19th century? Today? I'm trying to find the origins of these families before they came to the U.S. I'm not sure yet what generation emigrated. I have an Eliza (Melinda?) Hampton born in Knoxville, Tennessee, 1844 who married a William (Ira?) Ross who was born in Texas? 1843. They lived in Illinois,and Missouri before settling in Minnesota.
