Hi all, I need some help from the experts out there interpreting my Grandparents marriage certificate. It is confusing but here goes, my grandfather went through his married life as James GOOCH however when I reviewed the marriage certificate it said: James Cyril VAUGHAN age 22 years & fathers name James Cyril VAUGHAN then handwritten on the side was the following statement "In entry No 24 Col 2 before James Cyril Vaughan read James Gooch otherwise, Col 3 for "22 years" read 20 years Col 7 for James Cyril Vaughan read James Gooch Corrected on the 19th August 1922 by me A G Prater Registrar In the presence of James Gooch, Elsie Mary Gooch the parties married a statutory declaration as to the facts having been made by them" I would like your opinions on what this means, it looks like a simple name change but as the age at the time was 22 for Vaughan & 20 for Gooch that doesn't make sense to me.
