The box number will depend upon the surname, as they are filed in alphabetical batches in a great series of boxes. I've just found this for my Ggf who enlisted in 1902 and served 6 mths in the South Wales Borderers in S. Africa. This record is a 4 page form with personal details including physical description, occn, next of kin etc, as well as brief details of service movements. Wonderful stuff as I knew him as a child. The form can be copied quite cheaply, but as the boxes contain about 50 forms you do need the right one, so I doubt that he postal copying service will include the staff finding the right one for you. 3. Dear Norma, I'm not aware of a place called Harlepol. I suspect that it is more likely to be Hartlepool which is situated on the north-east coast of England, north of Middlesborough. You can see a map of the area at: http://www.multimap.com The web-site: http://www.totspad.freeserve.co.uk/monkey1.html connects Hartlepool to the monkey hanging. I must admit I've never heard of this before, I was a bit worried when I read the reference to it in your e-mail! I hope this is helpful.
