    1. [BRITNAMES] POST - UNUSUAL NAME MALLENBY
    2. MAY I POST THIS?? EVER HEAR OF THIS NAME IN YOUR AREA?? INTERESTS: RELATIVELY OBSCURE NAME "MALLENBY" HI, I am doing my family tree and I am looking for anyone with the exact spelling of the name MALLENBY anywhere in the U.K. It is not that common. In fact there are apparently only 9 MALLENBY names in the current voters registration in the U.K. and they are all in the Newcastle area. I am aware of these MALLENBY folks. What I am looking for are other current or previous listings of anyone with the name MALLENBY in the U.K. Possibly, in any previous Census Searches, Birth-Death-Marriage Searches, Previous Voter Registration Searches, etc. coming up with the name MALLENBY and whatever other details that may come to mind. Any photo copies of any such listings would also be appreciated. If you see any connection to the MELLANBY name that would also be appreciated. What I surmise is that the MALLENBY name stems from the MELLANBY name due to an error of inscription at time of birth or the like. A prime example would be: Eliza Prussiana MALLENBY Christened: 17/06/1757, Whitchurch, Shropshire Note that the father’s name was spelled Thomas MALLENBY and not Thomas MELLANBY. Mother Elizabeth. [IGI: Batch C037562; Dates: 1724-1732/ 1732-1797; Source: 0510683 & 0510684; Type: Film; Print Out Call #: 6908747]. I am also looking for any children born to Eliza Prussiana MALLENBY? I am also looking for any children born to Margt. MALLENBY & Geo. DENT Married: 18 Februray, 1797, Saint Agatha, Gilling By Richmond, Yorkshire [IGI: Batch M040211; Dates: 1730-1834; Source: 0207530; Type: Film; Print Out Call #: 6909947]. What I also surmise that in latter years, this error in spelling simply perpetuated giving rise to the MALLENBY name. What I’m trying to do is trace the roots of this MALLENBY name. For example, I can trace my name Thomas Todd MALLENBY back a few generations, but then the "trail" goes cold?? I’ve ordered certificates for the family below and this may give me some clues to follow. 1. Grandfather Thomas Todd MALLENBY b. 1913, 23 Dec. [Newcastle Upon Tyne]; 2. g grandfather Thomas Todd MALLENBY b. ?? 3. g-g grandfather Thomas Todd MALLENBY b. 1876[Newcastle Upon Tyne][d. 1917, 12 July][www 1 buried Nieuwpoort, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium] 4. g-g-g grandfather James MALLENBY [b. 1845??][No listing found yet for birth: James MALLENBY][Married: 1868, Newcastle on Tyne; Church: St. John the Baptist Church; Register Code: EJD 29, and the entry is 340. Bride: Ann Elizabeth TODD]. Prior to this does the name revert "back" to MELLANBY or perhaps to MELLONBY and this is why no birth record can be currently found for James MALLENBY [b 1845??]. I am also to understand that the names may stem from Thomaie MELLANBIE an emigrant to the U.K. from Sweden?? THANK YOU, THOMAS Thomas Todd Mallenby c/o Dr. Terry W. Mallenby, Ph.d. 1. [BRITNAMES] RENNEY - WINDROSS - LAIDLER - SHAW - DODDS
    2. Is anyone researching any of the above names in N.E. England. My RENNEY family is from the Sunderland, Hartlepool, Middlesbrough areas of County Durham. Have traced this family back to 1675 and am still looking for more connections. Am particularly interested in Henry RENNEY who was born on Sept. 19 -1819. at Sunderland and christened at Holy Trinity Church, on Oct. 13 -1819. he married Elizabeth DODDS at Sunderland on August 25 -1839. Henry was a Master Builder and am told he built some large buildings at Durham City which are still in use today, and there is a street named after him. They are my Gr. Grandparents and they had , Charles Henry RENNEY born in 1846, who was also a Builder, and Frederick RENNEY born in 1857,my Grandfather, who was a Plumber and Fitter in Bishopwearmouth and later in Stranton , West Hartlepool. Believe they had more children and would like to discover more info. on this family. Also seeking info. on :- Robert LAIDLER who married Florence RENNEY of Stranton, West Hartlepool, about 1898. 1. [BRITNAMES] A plea for help
    2. Peter Fahey
    3. I recently visited the IGI web page and found a William FULLER christened on 17 March 1769 at Kingston on Thames. His father was John FULLER and his mother was Mary. Now I put in a marriage search on John and came up with a John FULLER who married a Mary ROSE on 13 August 1758. This could be my ancestors for a number of reasons but I don't want to get tooooo excited until I do some more research. John and Mary were married in the same Parish as Kingston on Thames as with Williams birth. This is also the trial place of my known William. It cannot be denied that William may have been caught for whatever crime in his home town and trialled in his home town. It is not uncommon that his parents were married in the same Parish that their son was born either. There are a couple of other items I cannot overlook, which are:- 1. My William named his first 3 children William, John and Mary respectively. Rule of thumb in research is that the first child is named after the father with the second son named after the fathers father and the first daughter named after the fathers mother. I cannot forget also that Mary, William's wife also had a father named John so I can draw I guess as many conclusions as I like! 2. It has been documented that my William was born circa (meaning they didn't have a clue) 1774. This means when he was trialled he would have been a minor because he would have been approximately 16 years old. If the William born in 1769 is my William he would have been 21 when trailed on 29 March 1790 at Assizes for Cox, Kingston, Surrey, England. Additionally my William would then have been 48 when married and 66 when he died or deduct 5 years for each if it was the c1774? I was hoping that someone could shed a little light on this one for me! Kindest regards, Peter F Fahey

    2. James Martin
    3. Hello List. Thanks to all for the kindness and assistance from the list subscribers I have uncovered ggrandmum Mary Wilkin EMBLETON in the vicinity of Seghill - Tynemouth, NBL, c.1836 - 1856. Several weeks ago on this list I sought the origin of my grandfather's middle name(s), John William Embleton MARTIN. I obtained his birth certificate, and his mother is Mary Wilkin EMBLETON. There was some discussion about that EMBLETON surname at that time and I am asking now if there are any EMBLETON researchers out there still. BULLERWELL was another uncommon surname, and the other side of the family where I am having good luck thanks to dedicated subscribers and look up volunteers. 1. [BRITNAMES] Maureen - what should I be doing now?
    2. Maureen, When you refer to BVR I am assuming you are meaning the LDS British Vital Records. That CD is only a small portion of what is available (same as the IGI) for parish records cotaing Births, Marriages and Deaths. I would find out which parish the SCUTTS are living in while in Fife and order parish registrers and Bishop's Transcripts of that parish on microfilm from your local LDS Family History Center. If you need help or more direction, feel free to e-mail me off list and i can get you to the right sites to get the info you need. 1. [BRITNAMES] HELP! What should I be doing now?
    2. Maureen Scutts
    3. Dear List, Peter SCUTTS was the illegitimate son of Helen LAMONT and William SCUTTS. Helen's family were from Scotland and Peter was born there. William SCUTTS was shown as a footman on Peters marriage certificate and was alive in 1896 when the marriage took place. On the 1881 census I have found a William SCUTT living in Fife with his wife Isabella and it states he was a waiter, born in England and was 52 years old. I know that SCUTTS is definately an English name and I feel confident that the William SCUTT on the census is the father of Peter. In fact he is the only SCUTT in the whole of Scotland apart from Peter. The name Peter comes from Helen's brother who died two months before the birth so the name Peter is not associated with William. I have been unable to find a marriage entry on the IGI for William SCUTT and an Isabella and have also searched the BVR's with no luck. I cannot find births for any children to this couple. Which would be the best source to consult in order to find more clues as to whether this William is likely to be Peters father or not? A death certificate, 1891 census, 1861 census for the area where Peter was born? If you have any suggestions I would be very grateful for them. cheers Maureen
