Hello, I'd like to share the clues I have concerning my CRUMBIE (originally ABERCROMBIE??) family. I don't know where in Scotland they originated. James CRUMBIE was born in Scotland c1733/34. He and his brother Robert (year of birth unknown) emigrated to Pennsylvania, USA c1770 where they later married. Brother William and "several other brothers" apparently stayed in Scotland. One (unnamed) sister married in Scotland about 1770 and then emigrated with her husband to Nova Scotia, Canada. I've tried the IGI but can't find all the names in one place at about the right time. If you might be linked with this family, I'd be very glad to hear from you. Thanks! Joan mccarron@ns.sympatico.ca Nova Scotia, Canada

In the hope that somebody can help or perhaps point us in the right direction - We are trying to find a Gordon Essex who is the father of David Brown. David was born on 26 July 1946 at 22 Barton Road, Davyhulme, Urmston, Manchester to Elsie Jones and believes that his father was in the Manchester area whilst serving with the Royal Air Force during World War II. Elsie was born on 1 December 1919 at 37 Lord Nelson Street, Salford, Manchester and worked at some time as a Dental Receptionist. We are lead to believe that there was an argument over custody and this was subsequently granted to Elsie through Urmston Court - David was later adopted by Elsie and her then husband Lionel Alec Brown (known as Mick) on 26 May 1950 through Uxbridge Juvenile Court, Elsie and Lionel married on 22 September 1947 in the Register Office in Barton. We have very little further information regarding the Gordon Essex we are trying to find, other than before the war we believe that we worked for the Civil Service; we can only assume that following he war he returned to this role in the London area. We do have what appears to be a squadron photograph taken during the war but unfortunately we are unable to identify Gordon Essex. Any ideas, anybody? Thanks Andrew

At the GENUKI homepage there is a search engine that allows you to search extensively through the online gen. data on UK sources and researchers. In all of this there are only a few entries for PILAND and PYLAND - all in Gloucestershire as you would expect. These are all in connection with Probate Records, of 1544 and 1574, but will be of interest to you. There does not appear to be anyone listed as researching that name. Your best bet would be to subscribe to the Rootsweb List for Gloucestershire and post a message for help. That one is a very busy and helpful list so there could be some luck. There are lots of postings for the name/s on the genforum and familyhistory discussion lists, though these are mainly American used.
