Some of my ancestors came from Bridgwater, especially the sea-faring Roberts family, who had many trade links with Bristol. I used to have a little bronze or copper metal strip which I picked up in an antiques fair years ago, inscribed with the word Bridgewater together with the name Andrews. I'm sorry I can't lay my hands on it right now to confirm the details, which are from memory. I think it also had a date in the 1790s. I have no idea what its purpose was, but it intrigued me as a -cheap - memento of an ancestral home. I'll see if I can dig it out.
