Hi Listers, List members with links to Staple Hill in South Gloucestershire may be interested in this article featuring Page Park in The Post, today: Work begins on restoration of historic park's listed bandstand http://www.thisisbristol.co.uk/Work-begins-restoration-historic-park-s-listed/story-16725247-detail/story.html In the article there's a reference to the park's iron railings. When I was a little girl, I remember the stumps of metal along the the top of the park wall and my Mum telling me that the railings had been taken down during the war and that they had been used for the war effort. That was probably the first time I had heard about metal salvage in war time. I have other memories concerning Page Park -- I remember swings, which could seat several children, but I can't recollect, at the moment, if there was a tall 'slider', though I think there must have been one. No local park would have been complete without a 'slider'. In my teenage years, I used the tennis courts and putting green at Page Park, and pushed my nephew's high pram along the park paths. All good memories. Josephine --
