    1. [B&S] Mary Ann WELLS born Bath c 1816/17

    3. Hallo all, I have a real question in my own right! Yesterday I discovered that one of my direct ancestors David Parrett, twine spinner, and Londoner born Southwark, married a girl from Bath in St Gerge the Martyr, Southwark on 24 September 1839. Parish record found on Ancestry. He gave his age as 24 and she 22 - no occupation listed. (Subsequent censuses list them as both born around 1816) Her father was James Wells, hairdresser. In 1871 she comes from Bath Wilts; in 1871, Bath has moved to Somerset! They were living possibly at the same address - St Ann's Place. The witnesses to their wedding were William and Elizabeh Walker, who both made their marks, and their eldest child born around November 1840 ( registered 1st quarter 1841) was named David Walker Parrett. I am looking for a parish/baptismal record or anything similar for Mary Ann Wells and can anyone find out anything about her mother or more about her father? Other than the obvious - attraction of the big city - is there anything which might explain her move to South London? Jean Wood www.cheziris.eu http://www.cheziris.eu/Duterrau.htm

    3. Possibly the Walkers are family- remarried mother or sister. Or other family. Otherwise good friends hence their eldest taking the Walker name. She could have gone to London in search of work or her mistress had houses in Bath and London if she was a servant.
