I've been looking at Piece 361 in the 1841 Gloucestershire census on one of my 1841 census CDs in the area where I think that the STONE family lived, which could have been Kingswood, Hanham, Oldland or Bitton. However, having looked at lots of census pages for about half an hour I am no nearer finding the family because the handwriting on the 1841 census is so faint and my eyesight is not very good. The William STONE, whom Cindy is researching, was baptized in 1788 so his age would probably be rounded down to 50 years. I believe that his mother Alice was part of his household. I think her age could have been rounded down to 85 or 80 years. I know that the STONE family was at Cock Road when James, Joseph and Samuel STONE were baptized on 12th. March 1826 at Oldland, Gloucestershire. Parents were William and Dinah STONE and father's occuaption was coal miner. Can anyone find them in the 1841 census, please? Josephine

    3. I think we are the victims of poor transcription here. In the1841 census for Bitton we have the following family: William age 50 Dinah age 50 Sons, John 25, James 20, Joseph 18, Samuel 15, Stephen 10, William 8,. Apart from the 2 youngest they are all shown as coal miners. Daughter Alis 22 And finally a female named Willis age 87 The original document is difficult to read in places and Ancestry gives the family surname as Staves. However on inspection I think it should be Stone. Especially when looking at the last name in the list. I believe on inspection that Willis should actually be Allis. Is this your Family?
