Among the benefactors to the Church and Poor of St. Nicholas Parish under the date 1594: Mr. John Langton, alderman, gave 40s. per annum to four house-holders quarterly, and 12s. for a sermon to be preached at Horfield on the first Sunday in Lent, forever ...
