I had better go have another look at that entry! For some reason I have assumed George KIFT was apprenticed by father Thomas KIFT in 1788. Okay, have checked.....I think maybe I assumed the age difference of father/son as ‘normally’ the master is older than the apprentice, also the entry in the Masters Index under KIFt shows George KIFT apprenticing William Boylan in 1801 so one generation later, again, assuming this is likely to be same George KIFT above! Easy to do! Hi Amanda, I thought that the apprentice, George KIFT, was a kinsman of his master as his father was recorded as Thomas KIFT, merchant, whose abode was Cork, IRL. > I wonder if you would mind checking on the non-conformist registers for > baptism to see if there are other children such as George bapt to Thomas > and Phoebe KIFT. I've had a look in the CD of The Nonconformist Baptismal Registers in Bristol Record Office 1754 to 1837, produced by Bristol & Avon Family History Society, but there are no baptisms there for KIFT.
