Hi It has been awhile and I note by the archives my email address was out of date so to recap on my firends Evans family. We have a Robert Evans, born about 1827, baptism has yet to be found, who was the son of James Evans a shoemaker, this is stated on Robert and his wife Mary Ann Tuckers marraige certificate. They were married on 12 Mar 1852 in Clifton, Gloucestershire, England, Registry Office. Mary Ann Tucker was born abt 1831 in Wells, Somerset, England the daughter of Thomas Tucker and Ann Wescott. Mary Ann Evans died 28 October, 1921 in Wells, Somerset, England. Notes for Robert Evans birthplace not known for certain, seems likely to be abt 1825/1827 Somerset/Gloucestershire no record of a baptism found. On his and Mary Anns marraige certificate, 1852 Robert is aged 25 batchelor, a Mariner. Mary Ann Tucker, spinster, dressmaker both of 12 Hotwell Road, Clifton. Would be interesting to know if any other Evans lived at that address. Father James Evans, shoemaker, Thomas Tucker quarryman. Witnesses, Charles Adams/Jane Evans, both left their mark. It is possible that Jane is either mother or sister of Robert. Robert was Master of the ship "Colombo" formerly known as Budget. It was built in Quebec. On Roberts last voyage he had only a few months before became master of the Colombo. He died with several others in the awful Cyclone at Calcutta India 5th october 1864. His death was not offically recorded until Octber 1865. We have newspaper articles on the event. There was supposed to be some kind of Memorial to either Robert or the cre of the "Coluobo" so interested in nowing the whereabouts we could have a look at that please. A few years after her husband Robert Evans death in 1864. Mary Ann remarried his brother George Evans. George was the son of James Evans, Cordwainer and it is assumed James wife was Jane as there seems to be only one match in the 1841 census Lyncombe/Widcombe, Somerset district, that would fit with this whole 1841 family, though minus a Robert who may have been in the Merchant navy by that time. All except James senior was born in somerset. In 1851 at Bridgewater, Somerset, James Evans 54 a visitor, cordwainer, born Newland, Gloucestershire, close to the Welsh border and his son George Evans, 15 born Bridgewater at a different address in Bridgewater, Jane Evans aged 44 laundress, visitor. Jane (Evans) and James Evans had the following child George Evans, was born about 1836 in Bath, Somerset, England. he died on 13 Aug 1896 in Wells, Somerset, England. He married Mary Ann tucker, daughter of Thomas Tucker and Ann Westcott on 7 mar 1872 in bath, Somerset, England (st marks P/C Lyncombe) She was orn about 1831 in Wells, Somerset, England. She died in 28 October 1921 in Wells , Somerset. Notes for George Evans Marraige Certificate to Mary Ann Evans, widow of his brother Robert Evans, mariner. George was full age a widower ex inspector of works, India. Father James Evans, shoemaker. Mary Ann Evans full age, widow. Father is listed as George Allwood a butter maker. beleived to be her stepfater, he was a witness also Ellen Archer, it seems likely that George was Roberts brother d/c died 62 Southover , Wells aged 60 lodging house keeper dilated heart, cerebral embolism informant Sarah Evans daughter in law. This was the wife of Robert and Mary Ann Evans son. There is more but would be interested in anyone related to he Evans or Tucker families please to compare notes. Thankyou Edie McArthur
