    3. If anyone knows or suspects their ancestor served in the Army 1809 to 1817, one of the databases they may appear on is Ancestry's database "Canada, British Regimental Registers of Service, 1756-1900". I've come across countless Somerset-born soldiers under the heading of: Somerset Volunteers - Trumpeters, Drummers & Privates for the years 1809-17. They are 23rd Foot soldiers-2nd Battalion. (towards the end of the 193 images). Problem is most of them have been transcribed as born in Lancaster! With gobbledygook village spelling as in "Dubulin, Lancaster" - that's Dulverton. And many names are badly transcribed or are just surnames. So they'll never crop up as a result during a search. I've corrected dozens, but won't have the time to do them all.....One way you might find your fella is by entering just one item - Lancaster in the birth county search box, then keep your eyes peeled at the results. cheers, pamela
