I see by your map Mike, it was a very long road. If you look on F/M/P 1851 census address and search Clifton, it gives two Hotwell Roads. An interesting map of Bristol, c1863, is here: <http://mapco.net/bristol/bristol.htm> The Hotwell Road area was down by the docks - a world away from high class Clifton ! If you were to start at No.1 Hotwell Road in 1871 and walk to the Rising Sun pub at No. 32, you would pass: Swan Inn at no.1 Plume of Feathers at no.4 Red Lion at no.12 Dock Gates Tavern at no.14 Star Inn at no.18 Brandy Cask at no.21 Elephant & Castle at no.29 before finally arriving at the Rising Sun at no.32 ! Am I painting a picture ? ;-) Best wishes, Mike Gould -----Original Message----- From: bristol_and_somerset-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:bristol_and_somerset-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Lynne Charles Sent: 02 December 2013 14:59 To: bristol_and_somerset@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [B&S] Robert Evans, mariner and Mary Ann Tucker If you look on F/M/P 1851 census address and search Clifton, it gives two Hotwell Roads. Yes I had noted it was down by the docks.. that would be the area Mike as he was a sailor. Maybe they were staying at the Red Lion if number 12 is the same as was in 1852.
