Robert Siderfin 1645-1720 of Luxborough and Croydon, Somerset, was married four times. I have found three of his earlier marriages but not his last. Robert Siderfin Esq of Croydon Hall Somerset (Carhampton parish) wrote his will on 14 June 1715 leaving all his lands and property in Somerset and Devon to his fourth wife Elizabeth, the sole executrix. She wrote her will on 26 February 1727 naming a son James Gould (if he be still living) and leaving the whole of her estate to her dear daughter Elizabeth Gould whom she made her sole executrix. I have searched for the fourth marriage in FindMyPast, Ancestry, Family Search and MyHeritage. Does any lister know of a Siderfin/Gould connection. Paddy Buckley
There is a marriage in 1713 of a Robert SIDERFIN of Carhampton and a widow Elizabeth GOULD at Lydiard St Lawrence See FreeREG and Findmypast. Thank you Pat. You have pointed me to the right marriage. Now why didn't I find it myself? Earlier, on Findmypast there were 11 Robert Sinderfin marriages listed but I had forgotten to click (or just didn't see) the correct one for 1713. As for FreeReg, I must now use it more often; I have got into the habit of relying too much on subscription services. But there is an anomaly; two different dates for the same marriage: Findmypast has 11 June 1713; (using Transcriptions © Somerset & Dorset Family History Society); FreeReg has 2 August 1713 and has more details about the bride. So I shall favour FreeReg. I have one last request on this Robert Siderfin. On the pedigree at the end of James Sanders' "History of the Siderfin Family of West Somerset", Robert Siderfin was shown as born 1645. Elsewhere in the text his baptism was noted as 1645 in the Luxborough register "ye sonne of Thomas". I cannot find online his original birth/baptismal date which I had scribbled down as 27 November 1645 but without noting the full reference. Help please!
