Hi Josephine, Thank you for your reply. I have had a look over the years at the Coalfield Connections site and have sent him some of my information but the problem I have with this site is that I like to check and double check my information and back it up with either certificates or parish records etc but I have found some of the information on my Smiths on this site is incorrect(according to records I've sourced)and when I have sent an email to see if it can be corrected I get no reply. While I believe this chap has done a brilliant job with his site I don't want to be adding information that I can't confirm, in my book. You know.. Over the years I have collected such a lot of information and have it all in a folder but for some reason I don't have the information on Rachel marrying Joseph Jones but just this afternoon was Googling and came across my email to the list re Rachel in 2000.I can remember sending it but I have no idea of where I got that information from and I have never seen it since.I was on Ancestry for 4 years and there was never even a hint on her. Now I have found that email it will give me something to research into. If anybody on the list can help in any way I would be most grateful. Hi Elaine, There's information on your SMITH family from Midsomer Norton on the Somerset Coalfield Connections site: http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=pjc4ax&id=I06064 There may be something in the information there, which you don't already have. > I am trying to find anything on Mary and Rachel and all avenues here in > Australia are getting me nowhere Back in 2000, you mentioned that Rachel married a miner, Joseph JONES, in 1844, and that they were in Radstock in 1881: http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/Bristol_and_Somerset/2000-03/0 953462531 Perhaps someone will be able to find them in the 1851, 1861 and 1871 censuses for you. If they can't be found in the Somerset censuses, as Joseph was a miner the family may have travelled to Wales for work at some time. The details are here: http://www.freereg.org.uk/cgi/SearchResults.pl?RecordType=Marriages&RecordID=1442281 The record gives lots of information including the names and occupations of the couple's fathers and the names of the two witnesses. Josephine
Hi Josephine, Thank you so much for this information. I wonder if the Mary Ann, Rachael had as a witness was her sister Mary. This will give me something to do while sitting in front of the airconditioner today as our temperature has reached over 40 degrees for the past 3 days and is set to continue for 2 more days.Too hot to go outdoors so I have a good excuse to sit and research. Thank you again, Elaine, In very hot Victoria,Australia -----Original Message----- From: bristol_and_somerset-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:bristol_and_somerset-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Josephine Jeremiah Sent: Thursday, 16 January 2014 12:57 AM To: bristol_and_somerset@rootsweb.com Subject: [B&S] SMITH & JONES marriage.
