    3. Thanks kindly, Karen. I have found the medal card. Further to that I have now found the following about one of his son's who was killed in action: Casualty Details from the CWGC site: Name: HINTON, DENNIS JAMES Initials: D J Nationality: United Kingdom Rank: Flying Officer Regiment/Service: Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve Unit Text: 521 Sqdn. Date of Death: 07/02/1945 Service No: 152702 Additional information: Son of Capt. Arthur James Sheaft Hinton, M.B.E., and Jane Anne Hinton, of Ipswich, Suffolk. Casualty Type: Commonwealth War Dead Grave/Memorial Reference: Panel 267. Memorial: RUNNYMEDE MEMORIAL So I think that pretty much confirms the information about the father. Now I'd like to find out more about him. He would only have been about 27 (?) at the time. I imagine that his conduct must have been very worthy and, if his service was so remarkable it is perhaps why he was brought in as an older man during WW2? Flailing about with hypotheses :-) Found on: British Army WWI Medal Rolls Index Cards, 1914-1920 by inputting 'Arthur J S Hinton'.
