Every cloud has a silver lining, Chris:-) I've just looked at the new search and I've found that the 1859 baptism of my great-grandmother, Rhoda GROVES, daughter of Charles and Sarah Ann, has been recorded as Holy Trinity, Abbots Leigh, when I suspect that it took place in Holy Trinity, St. Philip's, Bristol. But I didn't have the date of this baptism before, so I'm pleased. I have also found the baptisms of Rhoda's brother Charles, in 1856, and her sister, Sarah Ann in 1872, recorded in Holy Trinity, Abbots Leigh, which I'm going to note as Holy Trinity, St. Philip's for now. The GROVES family lived in St. Philip's and I know that Holy Trinity Church, St. Philip's later featured in many family events. So I have discovered three new baptisms, today, for my GROVES family, and that's good even if there is a question mark over the church. Josephine -- Josephine Jeremiah www.ianandjo.dsl.pipex.com

    3. Josephine The first batch were mainly around the city but this next batch has included some south Gloucestershire parishes. I found lots of family in the new batch but thought it very odd that so many who lived to the east of the city would go to a parish church the opposite side of the city. I was having difficulty finding something more specific than an event that happened in Abbots Leigh would not have been registered in Keynsham District. At this point I had an email from Bernice saying that all the Birth Marriage & Burials records for St Philip & Jacob have been incorrectly listed as Abbots Leigh so I knew my suspicions were correct. She assumed it was a transcription error but the parish name is not entered by the transcriber but it should be pre set for the particular register transcription by Family Search. When the images where being prepared for transcription at Family Search they would be associated with a particular parish. I can imagine someone is supposed to select the parish from a list of Bristol Parish names where Abbots Leigh is the first alphabetically so is the default, but someone has just pressed the return key instead of selecting the correct parish! So I suspect its more than just the wrong Holy Trinity Church being selected. Hi Chris, I've just looked for my HAYMAN family, who lived in Oldland/Longwell Green, South Gloucestershire and their events are recorded in Abbots Leigh, too, on the new site. However, I've just spotted an 1850 HAYMAN burial in the Abbots Leigh records, which may be burial of my 4x great-grandmother in Pip & Jay so the cloud still has a little bit of a silver lining and I expect these things will be put right in due course.
