Hi Josephine, I used The Genealogist as my source for the baptisms of the Browne daughters (incidentally there is also another daughter Ann P Browne1827) but it was on the 1841 census that William Browne was described as a "Merchant" - I suppose that could well be the enumerator's interpretation of William's business. An interesting aside, which I know is out of our area, but I just mention it here is that the OSLER connection (in Fanny's names) is with the renowned company F&C Osler of Birmingham Glass manufacturer. They produced the most amazing chandeliers amongst other things which were in great demand in India and China as well as in the home market and at the Crystal Palace exhibition their colossal glass fountain was an absolute masterpiece. Thanks again for your help, I had a feeling that I should hear from you and Bernice in answer to my question! Janet
