I have located the burial of Samuel Beard in 1860 he is shown as buried at Holy Trinity St Philip. Samuel lived in the parish of St Philip and St Jacob would I be right in assuming that as Holy Trinity was built within the parish of St Philip and St Jacob that burials for the parish would have taken place at Holy Trinity as the graveyard at St Philip and St Jacob was full.. Any help appreciated Tony
Hi Tony Holy Trinity was built in the 1830's to serve that expanding industrial areas of the city. SS Philip & Jacobs churchyard was closed by law in 1854 along with a load of other inner city churchyards mainly for sanitary reasons. Both graveyards were cleared of stones a long time ago although there are some visible used as path stones at P&J. Arnos Vale cemetery was opened in 1839 and Greenbank cemetery was opened in 1871 specifically for the large St Philips Parish.
