I've just received information about the inscription on the Bitton gravestone of my 6x great-grandfather, William GULLY, who died on 31st. October 1787, aged 70 years. This ties in with the burial date of 4th. November 1787 at Bitton for William GULLY, which is in the Bristol Diocese Burial Registers Vol. 3 Index & Transcripts 1754-1812. www.bafhs.org.uk As William GULLY died in 1787, he could have been the William GULLY who was among the 20 people in Oldland entitled to take part in The Poll at the Election of a Knight of the Shire for the County of Gloucester, which took place in May 1776. William GULLY's qualification to vote was house and land in his own tenure. -- Josephine Jeremiah www.ianandjo.dsl.pipex.com

This was because the land was in his own tenure, but there was no freehold.
