Hi Josephine, Do you have the Vol 8 Marriages CD (N Somerset)? Watching grandkids right now, but can look later. Also, FreeREG might be worth exploring to see if any events show up in neighboring Somerset areas. More resources have been produced since I first started researching the GULLY family, so I am in the process of filling some of these gaps, but would be grateful for help with other gaps. I've discovered that my 3x great-grandfather, Joseph GULLY, had an elder brother, Thomas. Thomas GULLY, the son of Samuel and Ann, was baptized on 12th. August 1810 at Hanham, GLS. I think I've found I've found him and his wife, Susanna, in the 1851 Bitton census in the household of blacksmith William CASWELL -- Thomas GULLEY (sic), ag lab, 41, and Susanna, 39, both born in Hanham. I can't find a marriage for Thomas and Susanna in the B & A FHS Marriage Index 1813-1837 or in the Bristol Diocese (South Glos) Marriage Registers Vol 11 Groom & Bride Indexes & Transcripts 1837-1901. The thought has crossed my mind that Susanna may have been a second wife. I can find no children for Thomas and Susanna in the B & A FHS resources. So, Thomas GULLY is rather a mystery at the moment Could someone give me an 1841 census reference for Thomas GULLY/GULLEY and his wife in the Oldland/Bitton/Hanham area, please? -- Josephine Jeremiah www.ianandjo.dsl.pipex.com ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to BRISTOL_AND_SOMERSET-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message

Hi Marsha, Thanks for your kind offer, but I have looked in the Marriage Index for North Somerset Parishes 1754-1837. I thought that perhaps as Thomas GULLY was from Bitton, he could have married in Keynsham or surrounding area. However, no luck there and no result in the Gloucestershire Marriage Index 1800-1837 or the Monmouthshire Marriage Index 1813-1837. So here's a man with possibly two wives, Sarah (1841 census) and Susannah (1851 census), and no marriage for either of them. > Also, FreeREG might be worth exploring to see if any events show up in > neighboring Somerset areas. Thanks for prodding me in that direction. I have just taken a look, but haven't found either marriage. I'm wondering if the surname GULLY may have been written incorrectly in the records. If a likely marriage does turn up, I'll let the list know. Josephine -- Josephine Jeremiah www.ianandjo.dsl.pipex.com
