    3. Josephine: Let's hope I remember how to do this, it has been a while: Whoops, forgot to look on the next page, need to add Elizabeth 3 and Eliza (I swear it is Eliza) 6 mo and they belong to Mary Gully 1841 census for Gloucestershire Bitton District 14 image 11 of 16 Thomas Gully 30 ag lab Sarah 25 both of Glouc. below them Mary Gully 25 independent Mary 4 both of Glouc. The place was Wills Bridge On the left page at the top was a Sam Gully 50 Lime Burner Ann 50 both of Glouc Elizabeth William 80 independent Sophi Gully 40 listed as not of Glouc Mary 6 of Glouc Regards Sylvia Oregon USA from Josephine: At the beginning of the week, I was just about to start a reading break from family history when I received a message from someone researching my Bitton GULLY family, who had picked up my name from the Bitton Families web site: http://www.bittonfamilies.com/ Sifting through my GULLY notes, which were made a number of years ago, I discovered that there are a number of gaps in my research for this family. More resources have been produced since I first started researching the GULLY family, so I am in the process of filling some of these gaps, but would be grateful for help with other gaps. I've discovered that my 3x great-grandfather, Joseph GULLY, had an elder brother, Thomas. Thomas GULLY, the son of Samuel and Ann, was baptized on 12th. August 1810 at Hanham, GLS. I think I've found I've found him and his wife, Susanna, in the 1851 Bitton census in the household of blacksmith William CASWELL -- Thomas GULLEY (sic), ag lab, 41, and Susanna, 39, both born in Hanham. I can't find a marriage for Thomas and Susanna in the B & A FHS Marriage Index 1813-1837 or in the Bristol Diocese (South Glos) Marriage Registers Vol 11 Groom & Bride Indexes & Transcripts 1837-1901. The thought has crossed my mind that Susanna may have been a second wife. I can find no children for Thomas and Susanna in the B & A FHS resources. So, Thomas GULLY is rather a mystery at the moment Could someone give me an 1841 census reference for Thomas GULLY/GULLEY and his wife in the Oldland/Bitton/Hanham area, please? -- Josephine Jeremiah www.ianandjo.dsl.pipex.com

Mary Gully, 25, was my 3x great-grandmother, widow of my 3x great-grandfather, Joseph Gully. So the Thomas Gully, above her name on the census page, is likely to be her brother-in-law and the one for whom I'm looking. (Though his wife, Sarah, is a mystery.) > On the left page at the top was a Sam Gully 50 Lime Burner > Ann 50 both of Glouc Samuel Gully, the Lime Burner, was the father of both Joseph and Thomas Gully. The 6-month old Eliza was my 2x great-grandmother. I caught up with her only last year in the 1911 census. I was quite surprised to see her there! There's always something new to discover.
