Josephine, Bernice and all the many who have assisted me over the past week, a big THANK YOU!!! I have another question/questions. I traced the possible second wife of my Great Great Grandfather David TOWNSEND to the 1851 census as Eliza GRIFFITHS. This could be the wrong Eliza but in the census she is living in Bristol Castle Precinct with parents John and Mary. There is a grandchild listed, birth 1836, Fredrick GRIFFITHS and some other children. I have no idea who his parent/parents were. Cannot discern his occupation or if he is a student. Could this be my g grandfather and Eliza is the birth mother. Maybe she married David later in the year 1851 and is listed twice in the census?? My g grandfather's birth is always listed in USA records as 1840 but who knows? Could be the wrong Griffith's family altogether. I did find a John TOWNSEND age 11, adopted living on Castle St. Monmouthshire County Wales 1851 census. The head of the house is a woman with surname THOMAS and a man Wm THOMAS or is it TOWNSEND is living there, occupation sailor. Would a child have been adopted if he was apprenticed to learn the seaman's trade?? Are there adoption records in Wales/Bristol this far back?? I cannot locate his younger brother Wm. in the 1851 census for Wales or Bristol. He shows up in the 1861 census living with David and wife Eliza. Any thoughts or ideas as always would be appreciated.

Going by the birthplaces, I think that the Eliza GRIFFITHS, aged 30, of Castle Precincts, born in St. Stephen's, Bristol, was not the same person as the Eliza, aged 24 and born in Bruton, who was living in the St. Paul's household of the TOWNSEND coach maker, who was born in Warmley. Bruton is in Somerset. What was your Eliza's age and birth place in the 1861 census? Josephine -- Josephine Jeremiah www.ianandjo.dsl.pipex.com
