Hi Listers, Dyrham Park is in the news today. I know of at least one list member who has family links to this National Trust property and I recently discovered that some members of my family were baptized at St. Peter's Church, which is next to the mansion. I had to try to remember which was the most popular Bristol List, so joined all 4. Have you the same two List mums as before. One ran a hotel in south Cornwall, where the Scillonian sails from/to? Tries to get brain to work! Ton find appropriate Cornish parish name. I had to Google Scillonian! Penzance, that's it Phil

Hi gang, Just a short note to thank you for being so welcoming to me after these 4/5 years' of absence. In return, can I point out a useful resource that I found a few years' back? archive.org It is a repository for out of copyright material. I found the following by putting in Text as the media. Gloucestershire Notes & Queries from 1881 - a miscellany of facts and info from GLS. Many of the Phillimore Volumes of marriages for GLS and many other counties PRs from all sorts of parishes in many counties transcribed by the Harleian Society, Phillimore, Leland Duncan, etc. Three volumes of biographical notes and "opera" - associated with GLS including Robert Southey who married one of the Fricker sisters Family history, local history, maths books (!), dialect, a wonderful potpourri! I always choose PDF as my format of choice but you can have it downloaded in others too. HTH. Thanks again Phil

Hi Listers, This Somerset County Gazette article may be of interest to train enthusiasts among our list members. 'Moguls' bring Great War memories to WSR Steam Gala http://www.somersetcountygazette.co.uk news/10943326._Moguls__bring_Great_War_memories_to_WSR_Steam_Gala/ The article certainly sparked my husband's interest as he didn't know that any of that class of locomotives had been sent to France during the First World War. It motivated him to look up information about them in one of his railway books. And he's still looking, in a different book, as I write! Josephine

Hi Phil, Yes, you were here in 2009. Welcome back! :-) > My earliest WARNE at Tetbury was buried in a Quaker Burial in GLS. When I go through Tetbury, I often think of you and your research there. Some of my ancestors came from nearby Rodmarton, between Tetbury and Cirencester. By the way, we're not moribund on the B & S. :-) There is still quite a bit going on here with already 219 list messages this month! JJ
The three parishes with WARNE in are now remembered thank you. They were/are Hanham, Oldland and Bitton. Now "just" to link backwards in Quaker records from 1722 to about 1522,<g>. Phil Orpington
Good morning Bristol & Somerset, I am confused by the number of Rootsweb type Lists which appear to contain the wood "Bristol" I could even offer to host one, but it seems to be almost moribund. Have I been here before five years' ago? Thank you. I am attempting to link my Tetbury Warn(e)s with the WARNEs in the parishes east of Bristol, namely Hanham, Oldland and one other whose name escapes me. My earliest WARNE at Tetbury was buried in a Quaker Burial in GLS. So, I will have to wend my weary way to the TNA and/or the Friends' Library in Euston Road to try to link these WARNIES as I call those WARN and WARNE peeps. Only about 7 generations to go back <g> Phil

Paddy I have friends in Frome called SIDERFIN and I believe Pat told me that there was "much wrong" with the "History". Will check next time I see them. Jim
