You are welcome. I have recently uploaded all of the late Dennis White's transcripts of the early Kilmersdon registers, as well as the Bishops Transcripts and Bartelot Transcripts - there are numerous differences but that may in fact prove helpful for someone. The files will not appear in the database until after the December update, but they are uploaded: http://www.freereg.org.uk/ Yvonne -----Original Message----- From: Chris Jefferies [mailto:chris.jefferies@blueyonder.co.uk] Sent: Friday, 26 November 2010 10:57 PM Thanks for the extra info about the marriage of Samuel Lovell in Kilmersdon especially the alternative surname spellings.

Chris, I haven't found a christening for Susan or Susannah LOVELL at Kilmersdon so I tried under PLUMMER to see if she was actually born before Elizabeth's marriage but that drew blank as well. Then I looked at the Bristol parishes and found that a Susan LOVELL was christened at Mangotsfield 29th June 1806 the d/o Samuel & Elizabeth. I see this is the same date as a Lucy LOVELL so I assume that these are the two children you mentioned in your original message. In the transcript Susan is listed before Lucy which does suggest that she might be the elder child. Have you had any further thoughts about this? Hi Susan, I must have passed Parnall's at Yate around 2,750 times on journeys to and from school, but I never thought about what was made there or in the Newman's factory, nearby. Nowadays, we can put fingers to keyboard and find out such things. Here's a web page, on the Yate Heritage Centre web site, about factories in Yate, which may be of interest: http://www.yateheritage.co.uk/history-of-yate/the-factory-age.htm It includes a small section on 'The Blitz comes to Yate!'. Thanks for the link, Josephine. I hadn't seen it. That would make sense because we lived in Chipping Sodbury during the war. In 1943, we lived in the Rectory in Chipping Sodbury. Hi Chris, The mention of Kilmersdon caught my eye, so I've checked the fiche for this marriage and the banns: Banns entry 206: 07, 21 and 28 Jun 1801 Samuel LOVEL sojourner Elizabeth PLOMER of this parish Marriage entry 204: 06 Jul 1801, after banns Samuel LOVEL sojourner Elizabeth PLUMMER of this parish Witnesses: Jeremiah PORTER Wm ABRAHAM Yvonne Scrivener Canberra ACT Australia -----Original Message----- From: bristol_and_somerset-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:bristol_and_somerset-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Chris Jefferies Thanks very much for the info. It is obviously very tempting to say that this is the marriage but with no specific info about her birth location in a census it will have to be the "Probable" marriage. I was assuming "sojoiner" was meant to be "sojourner", a temporary resident rather than something to do with woodworking.
Thanks Jenny., My Isabella was born February 1862 which would have made her 14 only. Her Mother was Elizabeth CARD nee STOCK but from the Westbury family. The STOCK Surname was also significant in Rowberrow from which Ancestry advises me that Walters mother came from. I have never found a connection YET but maybe it goes back beyond her Grandfather George birth ca1760 unknown but marriage in Westbury 1785 in Westbury to Hannah URCH otp. The age discrepancy may not be significant as I can find no other Isabella CARD around this time. Just another challenge for research. Further to my last email - I've just noticed that immediately above Elizabeth LOVELL on the 1851 census is a Susan TANNER who also gives her place of birth as Kilmiston. She's aged 49 - born in 1802 and married to a George TANNER On the Bristol & Avon CD of marriages I found 18th March 1822 at Holy Trinity Stapleton George TANNER to Susannah LOVEL What do you think? Pat
Chris, I'm 100% with you on the meaning of sojoiner - someone who was not born in the parish and probably only a temporary resident. However, have you looked at the original 1851 census entry for Elizabeth LOVELL? I know you said she was born in Somerset but it actually says (if I've got the right Elizabeth LOVELL in Mangotsfield) that her place of birth was Somerset, Kilmiston[sic] There are no baptisms in Kilmersdon for children of a Samuel & Elizabeth LOVELL Pat ----- Original Message ----- From: "Chris Jefferies" <chris.jefferies@blueyonder.co.uk> To: <bristol_and_somerset@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, November 25, 2010 1:42 PM Subject: Re: [B&S] Somerset Marriage Help > Pat > Thanks very much for the info.
