    2. Hi Paddy Just to confirm I checked the parish register today at Bristol Archives and there is no further information in the original entry. The witnesses were James Hall and Elizabeth Davey who were probably church wardens as they appear on most entries around that time. 3. Family Search are removing much of the data found in the IGI and VRI as so much of it is from dubious sources. Lists of the contents of the IGI and VRI are available on line and both only contain a tiny number of Bristol area records. They are replacing the data with much more reliable transcriptions of entire sets of parish records so it now contains the entire set of Bristol parish records 1837-1900 and beyond. They have not transcribed pre 1837 records presumably because B&A FHS have transcribed 1754-1837 parish records and they do work closely with local FHS so pre 1837 Bristol parish records may eventually get into Family Search. One marriage took place in 1801, the other in 1814. Both marriages drew a blank. Josephine --

January 1835 is included in the CD of marriages in the Bristol Diocese obtainable from the Bristol & Avon FHS. Additional information is that the marriage was by banns and both bride and groom were of the parish. Josephine --

    3. A marriage in 1835 is before Civil Registration and therefore there was no requirement for the names of the fathers to be given. The British Vital Records Index gives the date as 5th Jan 1835 - It is rather strange that the marriage is not included in the New Familysearch, however it is included on the CD of marriages in the Bristol Diocese obtainable from the Bristol & Avon FHS. The original record would show the witnesses which may be of help to you. Its omission from Familysearch made me look for other marriages at St James and my random search for members of my own family who I knew were married there drew a blank. Has anyone else noticed this? It's a large parish to be omitted.
