Hi Charani and listers Although I knew previously about John Horwood being hanged at the new Bristol Gaol for killing a Hanham girl, I've often wondered if he was related to John Erwood born about 1802 who married into my Pollinger family of Riverside cottages at Hanham Mills on the banks of the River Avon. John Erwood married Ann Pollinger at Bitton church in 1826 and they lived at Hanham Mills by the 1841 census at least. The article says John Horwood lived at Hanham Mills too. Perhaps the two John's were related? With a thick local accent Horwood could easily be interpreted and written as Erwood in the Bitton and Hanham registers. I note there are a couple of female Erwoods at Walcot, Bath in 1851 and also Horwoods in parishes south of the River Avon over in Somerset parishes, and also some in Bristol, in fact in St George, the parish next to Hanham as you go towards Bristol. Am I distantly related by marriage to a murderer? Bernice
