Sadly I've had to put the whole list on mod because there has been a spate of members having their addresses "hijacked" by spammers in an effort to get their rubbish onto the list. So far I've been able to catch all the mails and advise the true owner what has happened so they are aware. Unfortunately, given the nature of the beast, it's possible one may slip through. In that event, please let me know *offlist* and don't give the spammers the pleasure of having their rubbish repeated by commenting onlist. It'll mean there will be a delay in posts arriving onlist but I will try to keep this down as much as I possibly can, RL permitting. Please be patient. I'll also try to keep this period down to the minimum but I won't be saying when I've taken the list off mod. My apologies for the inconvenience this is likely to cause. In the interim, please update and run your security programs and also ensure you are posting in plain text only as per the Rootsweb rule. -- Charani (UK) OPC for Walton, Greinton and Clutton, SOM Asst OPC for Ashcott and Shapwick, SOM http://wsom-opc.org.uk
I know many list members are interested in Arnos Vale Cemetery in Bristol. The City Council has issued a press release about the reopening of the cemetery on 29th April, followed by an open weekend from Friday 30th April to Monday May 3rd. The link to the press release is: http://www.bristol.gov.uk/redirect?oid=PressRelease-id-34054013 Alternatively, see: http://www.arnosvale.org.uk/index.php/news/122-april-launch-press-release Marian
Hi Further top Marion's comments ... yes this is a very significant event for the Cemetery - its not really a 'reopening' as its always been open (thanks to the efforts of the Friends of Arnos Vale Cemetery who campaigned to save it). This is a celebration to mark the completion of the main restoration project - including the main buildings, paths, walls and a some monuments. If you haven't visited for some time you will see some dramatic changes! If you've never visited ... you must! :) Loads of entertainment type things are going on to attract interest including a small team of volunteers who will be running heritage tours all day on Saturday 1st May... note there will be a charge for tours but entry to the cemetery is of course free and you can walk around as much as you like ... or perhaps buy one of the self guided tour leaflets. No cars are allowed into the cemetery during these celebration days - one good way to get around this is to use the park and ride bus from Brislington - it will stop right outside the cemetery gates.
