I cannot find John Manley PALMER in a census, FreeBMD, IGI, Google, in or around Bristol or anywhere. Has anybody seen or heard of him Pat

Hallo Pat Presumably you have a copy of the marriage certificate? Does it give his fatner's name and have you searched for his father in earlier census returns? Marriages Sep 1871 Palmer John Manley Bristol 6a 159 Were they married by Banns of licence - a licence application might give more details? Might be worth looking for a marriage between a Mr Palmer and a Miss Manley. Perhaps he was usually recorded as John Palmer and only used the Manley part of his name for formal occasions - ie he's simply staring you in the face I see that John M P was a mason. Have you looked at the website giving details of all known masons to see if he is there? It started with masons in the west country and then spread out. I have not looked at it for a long time, but Googling for Masons + list would probably find it. If not, try Cindys list.
