Hello friends, I don't know if this is news, or is of interest, but Australian newspapers are being digitised and made available for searching. I live in outer Sydney and have just revisited the site for the first time in a while and there has been a great deal of progress since my last visit. The search results I don't think are as easy to use as The Times search engine but if you are patient the rewards can be excellent. Link: http://newspapers.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/about Search is in the top right hand corner. You can also search within a search which is quite useful. Have fun. Regards .... Mike Powter
Hi Mike, Thanks for posting the information. I see on the website that "Articles from the service have been harvested and are available from the Google News Archive Search". I hadn't come across that in Google, despite being a keen user of Google Maps, Books and others. It offers another way to search the newspapers, and the timeline facility is especially good. The link is: http://news.google.com/archivesearch I hope other newspapers will be made available in this service - it could become an extremely valuable resource for family historians. Best wishes, Mike Gould Leicestershire -----Original Message----- From: bristol_and_district-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:bristol_and_district-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Mike Powter Sent: 02 May 2010 00:24 To: BRISTOL_AND_DISTRICT@rootsweb.com; BRITISH-MARINERS@rootsweb.com; ENG-LIVERPOOL@rootsweb.com Subject: [B&D] News from downunder Hello friends, I don't know if this is news, or is of interest, but Australian newspapers are being digitised and made available for searching.
