That brought back memories or a pissoir that used to stand at the bottom of Windmill hill on the way to Bedminster except the one I am talking about was round rather than square. As I recall there was quite a gap at the bottom where you could see the mens legs before they reached the inner of the *convenience* and that used to intrigue me as a very small girl! Janet
Janet, I was thinking the same and wondered about all that "water" gushing down... As a child I remember something like that downtown Bristol but it was black wrought iron. That was way back in the forties (1940s i.e.). That looked familiar immediately - and then further down the article it said the only other remaining one was near Sydney Harbour Bridge - so that's where I've seen it. I also remember when I was little there was a very forbidding looking black one that I was terrified of right in the middle of the city. It's good to see that kind of story on the news because there may be others around that haven't yet been bulldozed to make way for the slick, modern (but clean) public loos around now. Hi Robyn, There's also an odd looking one attached to the main building at the St. George cemetary in Beaufort Rd, St George, Bristol. My grandmother's buried there, Peter in a sunny Auckland On 5/14/10, Robyn Horan <robynvh2@gmail.com> wrote: > That looked familiar immediately - and then further down the article > it said the only other remaining one was near Sydney Harbour Bridge - > so that's where I've seen it.
