Charani. Many thanks for the information on Box Tunnel. Many was the time I had gone through that 4444 yard long Tunnel when I worked for British Railways,Between the years 1962 and 1981. Once when we worked a train of "Bricks"From Swindon to Bristol, about 35 years ago,We "Ran-Away"with the Train coming out at the Bath End of the Tunnel,Due to the Weight of our Train,With the Brakes full on the whole length of the Train,The Wheels all white hot, glowing like "Catherine Wheels"in the Pitch Darkness,We Shot through Bath Spa Station doing about 50 m.p.h; Only when we got on to the Flat Part of the Tracks did we slow down! We found out Much later,That our Little Diesel Locomotive was grossly Overweight! Still,I am now here to tell the Tale. "Box Tunnel"A Marvelous bit of Engineering. The whole railway Line from Bristol to London known as "Brunel's Railway". Known to me at that time as "Graham WILLIAMS's Railway".Or "G.W.R;" for short. Cheers Graham. -- Graham Williams.of Canton,Cardiff. Chairman,"Canton Historical Society". Glam;FHS;#551.
